SBR.tv's Peter Loshak teams with Justin7 for a preview of Week 4 in college football.




Week 4 in college football is often viewed as the last week of the season where current-season stats still do not comprise a big enough sample size to be predictive. It’s tempting though, to look at the games from the first three weeks and use syllogistic logic to find an edge. If Florida State is as good as they looked in their upset road win at BYU, a game that Peter Loshak and Justin7 discussed on SBR.tv last week, and a result that somewhat surprised them both, then Miami may be even better.

No. 9 Miami beat Florida State in Week 1, and now goes on the road to play No. 11 Virginia Tech, a team that has historically enjoyed a notably strong home field advantage, but has also fared poorly against the two Top 25 teams they have faced so far this year.

The numbers look promising for a Miami win and cover as a 2.5-point favorite, but it may be too soon to get an accurate assessment of these two elite teams only 3 weeks into the season. Justin7 and Peter Loshak look into this game and give their opinions on it.

TCU is ranked 15th, and goes into Clemson off of two big wins over sub-standard competition. The Frogs have high hopes for this year, but they will face their first real challenge of the season in Week 4 against the Tigers. TCU is a 2.5-point underdog, and the game has a low total in the low 40s. Loshak is liking TCU in a teaser, but Justin7 is not so sure about that, and makes some points about the overall mathematical differences between betting teasers in college football as opposed to the NFL.

After Justin7 gives out two Week 4 leans he has, Loshak questions him a little about what to make of flu reports, a somewhat murky handicapping factor that is nevertheless clearly an important one. Several reports have been circulating about various top teams dealing with multiple cases of the flu this week, including No. 1-ranked Florida.
