With the departure of quarterback Landry Jones and his 39 career wins (most in school history), the Oklahoma Sooners are looking for a new leader to man the offense. The top three candidates are redshirt junior Blake Bell, redshirt sophomore Kendall Thompson, and redshirt freshman Trevor Knight. Bell is the only one of the three with any game experience having played in 20 games, mostly in short yardage situations as a runner. Over two seasons, he has rushed 104 times for 361 yards and 24 touchdowns.
While Bell is the only quarterback with any game experience, the competition was spirited this spring with Thompson and Knight very much in the mix. Finding the right quarterback and replacing two new receivers will determine much of the Sooner success this season. The positive for whoever the new quarterback starter will be is that he will have four veterans returning on the offensive line.
Blake Bell, (6-6, 263), 10 of 20 for 115 yards, 0 TDs and 1 Int, Rivals 4-star recruit.
Trevor Knight (6-1, 202) Rivals 4-star recruit.
Kendall Thompson, (6-1, 191) Rivals 3-star recruit.
