Chip Kelly has to decided to stay at Oregon

Chip Kelly has decided to stay at Oregon and has turned down the Eagles offer to become their head coach according to CBS' Jason La Canfora. Philadelphia has interviews set up with Broncos OC Mike McCoy and Seahawks DC Gus Bradley. Personally, I think this is the best move for Kelly. He can continue to run his offense. He has a great gig in Eugene.

For the trolls. I made this up

For the others: via cbs, yahoo and espn

Well, this certainly complicates things for the Eagles.

They need to make a hire soon. I know for a fact Kelly was their first choice.

This is par for the course for the some big name college coaches. They have no intention of ever leaving the great gig, just want to get a big raise. It usually seems to work. The one Boston College coach got burned trying to do it. He got canned and I don't even remember his name.

This shows how much people think of this guy around the league, half the head coaches have been fired, they hired some guy no one has ever heard of in Buffalo, and some old retread in KC, this guy cant get a sniff.

he cant get out of Eugene fast enough as that place is going to look like a nuclear bomb went off there once the NCAA gets done with them.

I wouldnt doubt he 'retires' and takes time off if he cant get a NFL gig rather than go back to Oregon.

#1, until there is an official announcement from Kelly anything is possible. Homeboy is citing "sources" saying he is staying. Probably true, but who hasn't seen these stories turn out wrong .... I.E., isn't Kelly supposed to be coaching in Cleveland already? #2, I hope he goes back to Oregon. #3, why do they need to make a hire soon? They're going to be meeting with a lot of assistants who are still in the playoffs or just finished. This isn't a race to hire a name before someone else does. It's about signing the right fit for your team. When they find the right guy, they are going to make the deal that won't let him leave the table without saying no and that person is going to want to be in Philly. If they don't want to be in Philly, it doesn't matter if they try to sign someone tonight, tomorrow or next Tuesday.

Because they are running out of viable options. Really good coaches are few and far between. Many of the coaches now being considered for NFL employment will be abject failures.

Chip Kelly was a blue chip NFL prospect coach. They missed out on him despite meeting and negotiating with him for more than 9 hours.

Meanwhile, the other guy they were interested in hiring, Doug Marrone, was hired by the Bills. So, they again missed out on another option. Time is running out. Ideally, you want to have your coaching staff in place and then get ready to start the draft evaluation process asap.

Pretty soon, they will be down to NFL assistant coaches, many of whom have no prior head-coaching experience. They need to act quickly.

Good thing you're not in charge. It's been ONE WEEK since the regular season ended. It's not like it's February LoL. Your logic sounds like a true Philadelphian, rather have a "name" than actually find the right fit. Chip Kelly had no NFL ties. No NFL experience. So he was a head coach, that makes him a good fit? Blue Chip coaching prospect ... according to who? He's the hot shit because his team has done very well in FBS for the last few years and he's credited with the up-tempo offensive infusion that has hit football. Outside of that, what qualifies him more than a coordinator like Bradley who crafted one of the league's best defenses or someone like McCoy who has crafted two different offenses that worked very well with two different QBs in successive seasons? Being a head coach somewhere before is not a prerequisite for getting hired or having success. Look at the coaches left in the NFL playoffs this year ...

Belichick, Fox, Harbaugh & Harbaugh, Kubiak, McCarthy, Carroll & Mike Smith ... only Belichik had prior NFL HC experience. Only Jim Harbaugh had HC experience among the rest of those guys before they were hired for their first NFL HC gig.

Wanted absolutely no part of Chip Kelly, very glad he is not coming to Philly. He is Andy Reid on steroids.

This post is stupid. It's not about having a "name" head coach. Andy Reid wasn't a name coach when the Eagles first hired him. It's about finding the most capable man for the job before someone else hires him. They are failing badly in that regard.

Kelly was indeed a blue chip coaching prospect. If he wasn't he wouldn't have been wanted by multiple NFL teams. Also, what was the Oregon football program before he came there? Not much.

Bradley and McCoy may very well turn out to be good head coaches but the Eagles haven't hired either one yet so what good does that do for them?

They need to act quickly or their chances of finding the right guy for the job dwindles with each passing day.

They can't hire them yet dumb ass, their teams are still playing in the playoffs. There isn't going to be a ton of coaching news before some of these big name coordinators' teams lose. Kelly obviously has some concerns about his style in the NFL or he'd be coaching somewhere. He took the Tampa job last year and then pulled the plug before he officially signed and that is about what it sounds like he did with Cleveland. The guy is smart - he won't go in somewhere where he's going to fail, but I think at this point that he has seen the grass is greener in Eugene. Money won't ever be a concern as long as Phil Knight is alive and kicking. He'll probably make more than 75% of the NFL head coaches because of Knight's deep pockets.

They can still request permission to speak with assistants even if the teams are in the playoffs. They have already spoken to Broncos offensive coordinator McCoy, idiot. They are losing out on the coaches that are available. They already lost out on Marrone. They got refused by Kelly. They met with McCoy and didn't come away with an agreement.

They already interviewed Falcons assistants Mike Nolan and Keith Armstrong. They have set up interviews for Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arinas.

    Time is ticking.
