    JOHNNY B'S ****Chick-Fil-A-Bowl******LOCK******$$$$$$$

    : CLEMSON +6.5 (-110)

Both teams have to be disappointed in failing to make it back to BCS Bowls, especially after each lost one sided decisions last season. Clemson was waxed by West Virginia 70-33 in the Orange Bowl while LSU was shut out by Alabama in their rematch in the BCS Championship. Each was expected to be a player on the national stage again this season but both suffered a pair of tough losses. LSU lost at Florida and to Alabama whereas Clemson lost at Florida State and to South Carolina. Clemson’s strength is its offense while LSU’s strength is defense with each ranking in the Top 10 in both yards and points in those categories. LSU was tough against both the run and the pass. Clemson’s offense did both exceptionally well. The LSU defense averaged 2.6 takeaways per game against FBS foes (#8) and did so while facing 8 SEC teams. Against other than LSU, its foes were 81-51 against the rest of college football. Clemson’s foes were 70-63 against other competition. Both offenses had solid rushing games but LSU was deficient in passing the football. LSU allowed just 3.0 yards per rush, Clemson 4.3. Most of the stats suggest LSU is clearly the superior team so the question is asked, why is LSU such a short favorite? Perhaps the answer lies in the thinking that with both teams stepping down in the quality of the Bowl, the offenses will have the edge going against defenses that might not be as focused or as interested as if this were a more meaningful game. The offensive edge clearly is with Clemson. It’s also a much shorter drive for the Clemson faithful to spend New Year’s Eve watching their team play. LSU might not be as motivated after winning 5 of 6 and 3 straight to close the season and playing in less than a BCS Bowl. Clemson might be a bit more intent on ending its season on a high note after dropping its regular season finale at home to state rival South Carolina. Clemson does have some exciting playmakers who should make the difference. The forecast is for Clemson to pull the upset.
