SBR Videos Friday Night College Football Analysis - Wash/Cal with Troy West

Troy West from GameDayInsiders previews the Friday night Pac-12 Washington/Cal game with SBR's Peter Loshak.

Troy picked this game to preview specifically because he loves a side on the betting lines.

one WR doesn't change the line that much. Maybe 2 points max. 2 of the 3 starting LB are probable now and the other is questionable. A starter in the secondary is out however

tpowell you know i have mad respect for your college opinions

troy has me kind of convinced though, why don't you like washington here? is it just that Cal is traditionally great at home ATS?

I like Cal as kind of a "weeknight game bet". I don't think it's a major play, but Cal has some value IMO and here's why

Cal was +1 vs Stanford and Washington was +7. Washington did perform much better against Stanford but that shouldn't be the point.
Cal was +16.5 at USC and Washington would have been +22.5. They performed very similarly when factoring in Cal was on the road.

The line should be 6 from the common opponents minus around 1.5 because Cal has been bad ATS. You add 4 for home field advantage (at least 4 on weeknight games) and you would get around 8.5-9 as the spread. I would take around 2-2.5 points off for Cal being banged up (even though the LB's will all play). The final number you get is around 6.5 so I think at 4, Cal is an easy bet and 4.5 isn't bad either

I keep seeing the deal breaker here as Cal's WR is out -- like it's some sort of late-breaking information. Are you telling me the oddsmakers don't know this?

the real question mark IMO, are the linebackers who were all 3 questionable and now I've saw that 2 are probable

Washington was absolutely dominated by a very overrated oregon st team last sat night. I was on washington last week mostly of a fade against oregon st then anything else. But I will not be backing washington here. Oregon st out gained washington in FD and YDS. Org st also was -4 on the night and still only lost by 3. Washington was very lucky to win that game. The huskies have 4 wins, but all of them have been at home in seattle. On the road they have been blasted scoring only 97 while giving up 212. Cal as you know has been awful and couldn't possible look any worse. That's the perception of this team and they are better then their record indicates. Take Cal in a blowout.

    TPowell,

I hear ya. But this is how these guys win, by luck not by skill. And in the long run they will slowly but surely give it all back. And because they have no concept of money management or even know how much to bet based on their edge ( if they even have one) will go broke a lot quicker.

All I can say is congrats to the washington backers.
