    Georgia Tech -7 over Maryland

Why is this line still at 7?

Maryland has lost 4 QBs to season ending surgeries. Yes, you heard me, FOUR. They don't even have a 5th string lol...they have no more QBs on their team

Maryland will be starting a linebacker at QB against Georiga Tech lmao

Sorry my friend, as it was a thread about the Maryland quarterback situation. I made a big play on Georgia Tech.

He never played quarterback in a college game, he is a freshman, but played some quarterback when he was in high school.

It's a team sport. Losing a 4th string qb shouldn't make this line so big. Maryland could easily win outright. I will take +7 any day of the week with them at home

so you are saying their 3rd and 4th stringers were good? same can be said about them. they actually have a TE who was a former college QB and the linebacker is playing over him still

the thing is, this is no secret to anyone

not saying G Tech won't cover but tread carefully, I am always very cautious not to overreact to injury news

But this is not just injury news, as you are talking about having to play a linebacker as your quarterback, who has only played the position in high school, and who is the 5th option for Maryland, but I do agree with you otherwise.

I don't care if Maryland had a cheerleader at quaterback. The problem is with Tech as always a liability. But best of luck

yeah good luck man! I mean, I'm not saying Tech is the wrong side, or I would be betting Maryland which I am definitely not doing. I'm just saying, you throw in the QB situation, with Tech running the option, with Tech getting beat outright by some bad teams this year, and that is a whole lot of insanity in one game to cap.

I will ask Brent from dsi about this game in my weekly call with him this Thursday, and I am 90% sure he will say he has overwhelming public money on Tech. Whether he says he has gotten any sharp money on Tech, we'll see, but I suspect he'll say no, that he has small sharp money on Maryland.

    But we'll see!

Maryland turns to a freshman linebacker after losing four quarterbacks to season-ending injuries

    <cite class="byline vcard">

    By Graham Watson | Dr. Saturday – <abbr title="2012-10-29T17:27:04Z">5 hours ago</abbr></cite>

    Caleb Rowe (AP)
Maryland can't seem to catch a break.
After a season wrought with injuries at the quarterback position, the Terps have lost another one.
Caleb Rowe, a true freshman who had been placed into service after three starters were lost to season-ending injuries, suffered a torn ACL during last weekend's loss to Boston College. Rowe is the third Maryland quarterback to suffer an ACL tear this year.
"It's very unusual," Maryland coach Randy Edsall said. "I don't know something like this has ever happened to a team at that position. With this team, they understand and they feel bad for Caleb, but they know we still have games that we want to win. Everyone will have to do their part to contribute a little more and do a little more."
C.J. Brown, Perry Hills and Devin Burns (AP and Getty)
Senior C.J. Brown tore his ACL during noncontact drills on Aug. 15. True freshman Perry Hills suffered a torn ACL in the first half against North Carolina on Oct. 20, and his replacement, Devin Burns, suffered a foot injury during the same game.
With no one left in the quarterbacking bullpen, the Terps have turned to true freshman linebacker Shawn Petty as the team's starter and tight end Brian McMahon as the remaining quarterback option on the roster.
The Terps do have quarterback transfers Ricardo Young and Dustin Dailey on the roster, but they're ineligible to play because of NCAA transfer rules.
Petty played quarterback at Eleanor Roosevelt High in Greenbelt, Md., and was an all-county selection, but came to Maryland as a defensive player and didn't start learning the quarterbacking playbook until Hills and Burns went down. This will be Petty's first go at quarterback since December 2011.
Maryland is 4-4 this season, but will need a yeoman's effort to become bowl eligible with Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina remaining on the schedule.

Tech seem like a solid pick given the situation.

However Kentucky beat Tennessee last year snapping a 26 year drought with a receiver at QB.

We should start a separate section on here only dedicated to posting pics of the players

Now i am seriously considering pounding the hell out of GTech, at least on the ML

Maryland may not need more than one special teams or defensive score to cover here.

I think this is one you can't walk away from. You should run like hell

Maryland's rush defense is actually quite good. They allow 2.31 yds/carry and 77.63 yds/game placing them among the nation's leaders in rushing D. Georgia Tech may have some problems running their flexbone triple option offense. Their offense was stomped by the highly rated, senior laden BYU defense last week, 157 total yds, 117 rushing yds getting blown out in that game. The spread opened at GT- 6.5 at one or more of my books.

Maryland's run defense may rank among the nations top run defenses but under further scrutiny it turns out that Maryland's rush defense has been the beneficiary of teams with terrible rushing attacks.

    WVU 4.6 (#49), Virginia 3.6 (#90), Temple 3.3 (#104), Wake Forest 3.3 (#105), NC State 2.8 (#117), Boston College 2.7 (#120), Connecticut 2.5(#121).
    Yards per Rush

    WVU 153.3 (#70), Temple 138.5 (#81), Virginia 120.1 (#96), Wake Forest 113.9 (#105), NC State 99.6 (#114), Connecticut 86.9 (#120), and Boston College 71.3 (#122).

    Rushing Yards per Game.

For the exception of WVU, Maryland hasn't played an rushing attack as good as GA Techs.

No doubt GA Tech's defense is horrible and they have all sorts of problems internally but one thing that has remained pretty consistent has been their rushing attack. Even with all their troubles they still rush for almost 300 yards per game and average 5.4 yards per rush.

All things considered I believe GA Tech can roll over Maryland. We all know about their quarterback troubles but I think the above statistics make it clear that their rushing defense isn't all it's cracked up to be. Maryland's rushing attack is also horrible so this freshman linebacker playing QB has no one to rely on, not his run game or defense. So all the people on the fence over this game due to Maryland's supposed "tough" rushing defense can come down now (IMO).

Nice info, I pounded GT-6.5 Sunday, that is why I remembered the release number, believe it has shot up since then. While I don't expect GT to do what I predicted they would do, and they did against BC, they are much more physical and faster than Maryland on both sides of the ball.

Using the BYU defensive comparisons was my gimmicky attempt to equate the two units, when in reality watching game tape reveals BYU is a top 25 team who has played tougher opponents and has a much better balanced, experienced D unit than Marland.

I also think GT D unit will step up since firing Groh before the BC game. The D played well against an inferior ACC foe BC, but struggled against an underrated BYU team.

Nice play and catch at -6.5. I myself looked at the line and started psyching myself out because it looked to good to be true but after doing some research of my own and reading some of the responses on here I came to the conclusion that despite their troubles GA Tech is the better team.

    Good luck this weekend!

It almost seemed too good to be true but I'm pretty confident. I don't see that criminal linebacker being very effective when he only has a week to prepare. Maryland is probably trying to develop a completely new offense for the guy
