    PITT -10 vs UCF

Tell me why you don't take Pitt in this spot? I have been riding the pitt train the last few weeks, and i think i will continue to do so till they play rutgers or louisville. thoughts?

Under the Friday (the 13th) Night Lights . . .

I like Pitts -10, waiting though, I almost put down Sunday
at 10.5 because I thought it was gonna go the other way.
I'm waiting for off the ten and I just saw 9.5 Cascade. Superstition re: the date is the
    only reason I can think of . . .

    Devil's Advocate: Reasons to Like UCF . . .

r2d2 I put UCF-oriented thoughts in my Sunday thread re: this matchup . . . please see it and let me know what you think . . . I'm liking Pitt -10 here too (9.5 Cascade).

have read that UCF RB Kevin Smith is a little banged up but should play in this one...

    For Me It's UCF's Defense That Raises the Questions . . .

if Smitty's in or out it really doesn't make much of a difference for me for two reasons 1) Peters his backup is pretty much an equal and 2) I think it's UCF's D that makes PITT the play.

UCF, offensively, has something. They're coming off the emotional last play-of-the game FG type victory over Marshall
and wins like that can be a lit pilot momentum-wise. Plus HC
Oleary has vowed to address the team's r-zone woes because
he's sick of getting up there and coming off with FGs. (and until
recently he wasn't even getting some of those FGs as PK Torres was responsible for some misses including a chip shot
miss prior to Marshall game . . .

UCF, defensively, is where the issues are raised that make PITT the play for me here . . . UCF defense allowing avg 400 yds/game avg 19th in C-USA. Allowed 7/12 3rd down conversions vs Marshall. Marshall ran 18/181 with lots of missed tackles and I'm pretty sure I have it right UCF's pass
defense close to last rating in nation.

With the exception of their loss to MICH ST, PITT's victory
margin average in their 4 victories is 32.5 with the smallest
margin of the four at 18 over CINCI.

    checkerboard,

I highly doubt that UCF has a back-up as good as Smith but I could be wrong...he's a damn impressive player...

    pags11,

I'm impressed with Kevin Smith. He's very exciting. My comparison with the backup was more numerical in nature.
Jason Peters (the backup has the same average yds/carry
stat 4.7 over approx 50 carries to Smith's 80 with identical
average and in the Marshall game I noticed Smith was 26
carries avg 6.4 yds/run and Peters was 13/108 (avg 8.3/run).
Not much of a sample, only an observation . . . It's mute for
me though because I'm more concentrated here on UCF's
defensive weaknesses. I see the matchup as a PITT scores
more type of game. HC Wannstedt is concerned that his
players may fall prey to a 'trap' game so he put mousetraps
all through the dressing room during practice this week hoping
his players would get the message . . .

Wannstedt's mouse traps in the practice room worked with
plenty of breathing room . . . no Friday the 13th PITT jinx!

Nice Pick. Pittsburgh looked PHENOMENAL tonight. I agree that they are not getting the respect that they deserve.
