When I 1st read this yesterday, my initial thought was Mir will dominate....but I'm already starting to doubt that. Both are smart fighters . It will be be an interesting and close fight. I may be inclined to put something on Roy if he opens as a big dog.

Every time Nelson has fought a top 10-20 guy he's been beaten. Not too many impressive wins under his belt. Losses to Dos Santos, Arlovski, Monson and Rothwell. Best win during that time is Struve. He definitely has a chance but look at who Mir has beaten: Lesnar, Nogueira, Kongo, and Cro Cop.

Ah true, but that Arlovski fight was a crime. Stood up from side control, ha very funny. Not quite as bad as being stood up from mount, but really close. Still I think that is a good point and helps to sort of place Nelson in the pecking order.

You say it as if it will be a massive shock like Serra beating GSP! Well done on conviently not mentioning the Saints lock!

Sorry to burst your bubble Nostradamus, but you're hardly the only one picking Nelson. I think the odds will be pretty close to even by the closer, if not the opener as well. I myself was probably going to bet on Nelson as a small underdog, but seeing you on the same side makes me reconsider. If Nelson beats Mir, it's not going to raise many eyebrows.

Ask yourself why some of us here are making money off of MMA betting while you don't. For starters, your belief in "locks" probably has something to do with it.

There is no such thing as a "lock". The problem is the money you made on Stun Gun or Thiago Silva last week was probably all flushed with your Saints "lock". Right??

    care to explain?

they both fight pretty similarly but i think mir has fought better competition and has improved much more than big country has. i dont think big country can take the fight to the ground and i think mir has the edge in the stand up. im open to hear other opinions though becuase im not confiddent in my analysis.

ha it was just over a minute in to the fight...did Kongo expect Mir to start the fight in the guard position then?!

    Oh here we go...another "CAN"!

So let me get this straight. In your "Top Ten HW's in the World" you have Mir as number 8 and number 5 in the UFC - http://www.sportsbookreview.com/forum/boxing-mma...-rankings.html

Rogers, yes Brett Rogers, is number 4 in your HW ranking and Nelson is nowhere to be seen! So if Mir is a can yet ranked at Number 9 then what does that make Nelson who you dont even rank in top 9?!

Far far from a lock. Mir will be a big test for Nelson. Personally I don't think I'll be betting on either guy, unless the odds for Roy look too good to be true.

those rankings are 1 year old....besides, Mir had a couple of fluke wins so it would be unfair to not rank him in the top 10...Roy Nelson, however, recently put on a great fight vs Dos Santos, someone much better than Can Mir

Nelson hit him with some good shots. More than anyone was expecting. JDS is supposed to be one of if not THE best striker at HW.

I know his grappling is legit, but I just don't see Nelson getting Mir to the ground. If he wins, it's going to be a KO victory

Why is JDS one of the best strikers at HW? The guy hits really hard, but his hands are extremely low and he has little in the way of defense, plus he is more of a wild swinging brawler than a striker to begin with. I think if he is the best striker in the division, it is by default. Just shows once again how shallow this division is.

JDS has had a really soft schedule so far, I believe him to be slightly overrated at this point.

    Queensbury rules:

To be a fair stand-up boxing match in a 24-foot ring, or as near that size as practicable.
No wrestling or hugging (clinching) allowed.
The rounds to be of three minutes duration, and one minute's time between rounds.
If either man falls through weakness or otherwise, he must get up unassisted, 10 seconds to be allowed him to do so, the other man meanwhile to return to his corner, and when the fallen man is on his legs the round is to be resumed and continued until the three minutes have expired. If one man fails to come to the scratch in the 10 seconds allowed, it shall be in the power of the referee to give his award in favour of the other man.
A man hanging on the ropes in a helpless state, with his toes off the ground, shall be considered down.
No seconds or any other person to be allowed in the ring during the rounds.
Should the contest be stopped by any unavoidable interference, the referee to name the time and place as soon as possible for finishing the contest; so that the match must be won and lost, unless the backers of both men agree to draw the stakes.
The gloves to be fair-sized boxing gloves of the best quality and new.
Should a glove burst, or come off, it must be replaced to the referee's satisfaction.
A man on one knee is considered down and if struck is entitled to the stakes.
That no shoes or boots with spikes or sprigs be allowed.
The contest in all other respects to be governed by revised London Prize Ring Rules.

neither of these guys want to try and take this fight from guard, while both are very confident in their ever improving striking.

can you see either of these two securing a decent takedown on one another?

To PC: Junior definitely has some face-blocking problems, but his striking arsenal is more versatile than carwin or velasquez. All I'm saying is that for Nelson to be landing on Cigano is no joke. It seems like fans and fighters alike continually underrate his striking.

Also, there aren't any non-pride HWs that haven't had a soft schedule leading up to their first title fight.

Cigano is like a magnet for strikes, I just don't put much stock in Nelson being able to land on him. However I will agree Nelson has perfectly decent striking. It would be a huge mistake to overlook his stand up.
