knew kovalev would fall apart late but didnt really think ward would finish him... didnt love the quick stoppage for a fans perspective

It's not just a bad stoppage, but what Ward did to get that stoppage.
First 7 rounds were awesome- I'm not denying that... but 7 rounds don't make it a complete fight.
Kovalev complained about illegal blows below the belt, that were later confirmed by the referee himself. No matter how you look at it, Ward used cheap shots to get a win in this one and that precisely why this is not a great fight.

the straight right that wabbled him looked like the winning shot to me , kovalev was slowing down and ward was going to roll
to a decision... up until then it was an extremely close fight i had it almost tied or ward up 1 , but that round was easily his and he wouldve kept the momentum up since kovalev was fading... he landed 1-2 below the belt but had his body hurt and landed a huge straight right that initiated that flurry anyways.... kovalev a great fighter but his cardio hurt him again and he was looking for a way out imo... cant just curl up and stop fighting you have to defend yourself or fight back, i didnt love the stoppage but it did look like he wanted out

Ward also had an illegal below the belt punch in the 7th round if I recall correctly. Kovalev was slowing down, but up until that moment, it was a pretty even fight. Saying that Kovalev wanted out, after getting repeatedly punched in the nuts is simply unfair to the fighter.

Got to agree with rocket here. Nobody can take all those borderline nut shots. I think most were because ward is the smaller fighter but something should have been done.

meh it was like the first fight kovalev started to fade in the latter rounds and ward looked like he was gonna take over for the remaining rounds for a decision win imo

that straight right dazed him and probably 2/5 body shots landed low , it was a weird angle to see on most cameras plus he was hunching over so it would be harder for the ref to see... plus kovalev was looking over at the ref multiple times , if he wasnt hurt then defend yourself , when the ref breaks it up then take your break , if not fight back and circle off the ropes .... ward not even one of my fav boxers but a rematch favored him , kovalev still a beast but he lost the fight
