I was hoping Smith would be a dog again. There's a decent chance he gets KO'd or loses a competitive fight and ultimately drops to 155.

Smith should be considerably bigger than Whittaker. He weighs around the same as most small middleweights. Whittaker is a very talented athlete and has a decent shot in this fight; he's shown some solid counter-grappling and superb athleticism, but he's technically very poor in pretty much every area. If anything, he has better technical wrestling defence than he does technical striking.

I do like Smith here, though.

Some good prop parlay options in this card IMO.

    Main card should be entertaining.

What are you basing this size difference on? I dont see it. Wrestled at 145, although in high school, and doesnt seem big to me for 170.

Mark Hunt should not be at 4 to one in a standup battle. I don't know if its the old pride nostalgia and I hate that "should not be so and so in comparison" line of thinking, but goddamn Im really thinking of playing the fat man. Watched some footage, and I thought Hunt might have an opening for a crosscounter when he throws his bodyjab, as he sometimes flared his chin out there in his earlier fights, but he has become very good at tucking it. Junior doesn't mind leading though and Hunto is an excellent counterpuncher and could conceivably beat him there. I think Hunt is too disciplined a fighter to chase Junior when he moves straight in and out and get caught with the hook counter. Juniors movement is simple, he doesn't get off the line when striking which is dangerous against and actual high level striker, which Junior hasn't faced yet, except the husk of Mirko, which actually gave him some problems if I remember right. Hunt should kick the legs a lot to limit the speed and in and out movement.

Am I chasing fools gold here? I haven't even taken into account the ground game, but I dont think Junior is that far ahead compared to mark. Played Junior by Dec though so far.

Smith said in an interview that he walks at close to 200 lbs. There was a discussion about it on this forum back when he fought Ricci.

After 'TUF 16' championship, Colton Smith considering drop to lightweight

by Dann Stupp and John Morgan on Dec 16, 2012 at 10:30 am ET
LAS VEGAS – After defeating a string of welterweights and winning the 16th season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Colton Smith is considering a new weight class.

Smith shut out Mike Ricci on Saturday at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale to win the 32-man tournament.

But unable to finish Ricci, a fighter who's also expected to drop to lightweight for his next, Smith realizes his size may be a disadvantage at 170 pounds.

Smith (4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Ricci (7-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) co-headlined Saturday's FX-televised event at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Smith fought from close quarters, scored frequent takedowns, and smothered the Tristar Gym fighter en route to a unanimous-decision win (via 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26 scores).

But he couldn't get the finish.

"Mike Ricci is an extremely tough opponent," he told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I knew he was tough coming in. He's a very precise striker. You can't make a mistake with him. He'll knock you out. We saw that during the show. He's a 155-er and fought a bunch of 170-ers and did an awesome job on the show."

Ricci, in fact, was a 2-to-1 favorite heading into the bout. He had previously fought for Bellator, and while dominating the Canadian fight circuit, he picked up a 2009 win over Strikeforce contender Jordan Mein.

Smith knew he didn't want to stand and trade with the striker, and though he knew he it might not be the flashiest of game plans, he had hoped it'd lead to a finish.

"I knew my pressure and my wrestling were definitely going to play a factor in it," he said. "My jiu-jitsu I figured would play a factor. But I couldn't get the finish. He's an extremely tough guy. I just had to keep wrestling. I couldn't have any separation. My hat's off to him. I couldn't get the finish, but I tried my ass off."

Smith, an Army Ranger and based out of Fort Hood, Texas, currently trains with the likes of Strikeforce fighter Tim Kennedy and undefeated UFC prospect Andrew Craig. He said he's beaten up daily by the bigger fighters, so despite his success on "TUF 16," he knows he may need to go smaller for his UFC career.

"Absolutely there's a possibility of me moving down," he said. "Especially if Tim Kennedy moves to 170, then I'm definitely going down to 155."

And speaking of challenges, Smith, who walks around at nearly 200 pounds, said he may consider a drop to lightweight once the "TUF 16" experience wraps. He's got a good system for his weight cuts and easily sheds the weight for weigh-ins.

For example, while 24 hours away from the TUF 16 Finale weigh-ins, he said he'll have no problem making the 171-pound limit. However, he saw a fighter hit the scale earlier today who still had 15 pounds to cut.

"It's like, what kind of dedication do you have?" he said. "I do it the right way, so thats why I don't struggle with it.

"... So I'll entertain 155. Why not? I walk around at 195, but I could make it. ... I'll go to 155 when the time is right."

Walks at is different than "cuts from". Id think thats pretty average for a ww a month out.

I agree guy. Hunt by TKO/KO and JDS decision are the two plays I'm considering here.

Agree that the standup is close but JDS might be smart enough and take the fight to the ground.

My favourite bet for that fight:

    $555.00 $250.00 Pending 5/25/13 11:30pm Props Fighting 1137 Hunt/Dos Santos starts round 2 -222* vs Fight won't start round 2

Not sure what to make of it other than that. I will say I think JDS by sub is incredibly unlikely. Wouldn't be surprised if Hunt had the ground edge.

yeah should start round 2. I expect JDS to move a lot, and if Hunt gets close to clinch and hold him against the fence then reset.
