    • Technical Knockout (TKO): If the referee decides a fighter cannot continue, the fight is ruled as a technical knockout. Technical knockouts can be classified into three categories:
      • referee stoppage (the referee ends the fight because one fighter is unable to intelligently defend himself)
      • doctor stoppage (a ring side doctor decides that it is unsafe for the fighter to continue the bout due to excessive bleeding or physical injuries)
      • corner stoppage (a fighter's cornerman signals defeat for their own fighter

I cannot understand why betfair is not upholding the official ringside decision. Can you please advise me on how the word of Bruce Buffer is always upheld; yet now, betfair is deciding on their own outcome.

    Sincerely,

This is from Betfair's rules (it's similar to Skybet's statement):
"...markets will be settled on the official result of the relevant governing body regardless of any subsequent disqualification or amendment to the result (except if an amendment is announced within 24 hours of the initial settlement of the relevant market in order to correct an error in reporting the result)."

I've argued that the official result was "TKO" but then amended to submission after. Unibet accepted it but then unibet dont have any rules specific to MMA but under their boxing it states "The announcer's declaration of result is final" or something along those lines so I guess that is why they changed the grading to Mir by TKO similar to Sportbet. Likes of Betfair and Skybet have more detailed conditions though and as you can see they've got the bit... "except if an amendment is announced withing 24 hours...." which they can claim is the case with the Mir situation. Skybet have got a similar comment so it's highly unlikely that they will change their mind either.

Was an ammendment by the commision made after the TKO announcement in order to correct it? If it's announced as a TKO that should stand until any ammendment is made. But commisions are usually slow and incompetent to do anything about them.

Just prior to Buffer's announcement he goes up to Mir an Herb looks at his card and he says "move foraward, move forward" then says something inaudible with "TKO?" at the end, Herb turn his head to look at him and nods to confirm. Seems that it was on the card and Herb then confirmed it in the conversation...

Thanks for posting this as I agree with being able to amend a decision that is wrong. Who is the official body that makes the amendments? Is is the Nevada Commission? I would assume they could be the only group who can officially 'change' an outcome. That is just speculation on my part though.

Here's the next email from betfair:

    Dear hels,
I appreciate this was stated in the 'match outcomes' report by the referee, however we cannot go against the official result.
I'm afraid its not a case of Betfair deciding our own outcomes, the official outcome confirmed on the UFC website was a Submission and we are not in a position to override this.
    http://uk.ufc.com/event/UFC140/results

    Kind regards

I replied saying thanks and I accept betfair's decision. However, I am still displeased with their 'sources' being wikipedia and uk.ufc

The UFC (or fightmetric who wrote that) aren't representatives of the athletic commision. What the UFC say should be irrelevent just as much as any other media site, the UFC don't decide or ammend outcomes, the commision do.

Try and contact the Ontario Athletic Commision at (416) 314-3630 or (416) 326-8633, KEN HIYASHI, ken.hayashi@ontario.ca

You are right what Bruce Buffer declared the decision was irrelevant. The UFC only posts results that are approved by the commission. If the commission doesn't say anything they post what they believe until the commission responds. There are rules on all sportsbooks that give a time frame for the commission to change the official result of a fight before the bet is graded. Obviously in this case it was changed immediately and was just looked at like an error. Emailing the commission or calling them will not change anything at this point. The time frame they have to change the outcome as far as sportsbooks are concerned has already been exceeded.

Anyone who has had their bet graded a winner should be happy they are on a low level book that doesn't know any better.

Anyone who is betting into MMA, especially those taking props should figure out the rules the sportsbooks follow before betting.

Completely agree that it is the wrong way to grade it, but 5dimes graded it a TKO and I would hardly call them a low level book. In fact, I have more respect for them for sticking to their policy of grading it as the outcome that was first reported.

Results will be graded/regraded based on the official result at ringside. A result may be revised or altered after initial presentation by the ring announcer. Results are not official for wagering purposes until verified by officials at the fighting venue. Official or unofficial sanctioning body overturns of a fight decision based on appeal, suspension, lawsuit, drug testing result, or any other fighter sanction will not be recognized for wagering purposes.

5Dimes made a mistake here. Those are there rules. If no one argues it or had Mir by sub then I'm glad people made money, but it was a mistake on their part.

With an injury like that late in the career you wonder if he'll be back in the cage ever again. This being said big Nog already seems mentally off so I'm sure he will be back, just probably won't be a factor unfortunately.

So betfair screwed me over with their settlement of the Nogueira versus Ortiz fight.

They listed the fight as "A R Nogueira versus Ortiz" and the betting selections as either "Tito Ortiz" or "Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira". Everyone that clicked on that fight window to enter the head-to-head selection knew which Nogueira brother that was based on the opponent.

Did anyone else get their bet voided after the fight result was known?

I posted a thread detailing their ludicrous decision in the sportsbooks & industry forum: http://www.sportsbookreview.com/forum/sportsbook...betunfair.html

Wow you got screwed big time man. I've had my bets cancelled in the past because of mistakes like that, but usually it's several days before the fight and you get an email to notify you of the change. Unfortunately there is probably nothing you can do about this. Someone probably bet Tito and freerolled knowing they could get the bet cancelled if they lost. This is a pretty standard sportsbook rule, but like I said most times these things are figured out before the event.

So have they voided bets on Lil Nog to win or just Lil Nog by TKO/KO? Either way it's pretty scandalous!

Ah right, well that's very dodgy of them. I'd be going crazy if I'd had a load on Lil Nog on there - luckily mine was on Ladbrokes and Pinnacle.
One thing I did do when I bet on Big Nog KO of the Night at +4000 on skybet was do a screendump of it (clearly showing Rodrigo Nogueira) as I new they might claim that they got the Nog's the wrong way round if it was successful. Im going to start printscreening most my plays from now on just in case these type of crazy situations arise. For instance, I had a parlay of Ben Henderson, Faber and Mir and just after Faber beat Bowles they voided the Mir part of the parlay and just paid out based on Henderson and Faber double. There argument was that the date of the Mir fight was wrong - they claimed that they'd been told by UFC that it was happening on November 21st on a Monday or something like that and so voided all bets when they realised that it wasnt on that date! Was complete bollox as I remember that wen I first placed the bet the Mir/Nog fight was listed under the UFC 140 section. If I'd of taken a screendump at the time I'd of had proof but as I didnt there wasnt much I could do

My Mir method of victory by KO was initially graded a loss, but a few hours ago was reversed and paid as a win.
