#45you have to bang the body all night on mayweather. if you try headshots you'll just miss and get countered. just bang the body all night. I noticed that in the Guerrero fight as well. guy was missing wildly with the headshots, but was much more effective in landing body shots. just punch the body all fight long. if the hands come down than you can aim for the head a little. but from what ive seen in all the mayweather fights, guys end up disappointed when they aim for head. guys land much better % when going for body.Comment -

#49Boxing is rigged, Floyd won because he had the market to win. There is no money in him losing unless it is to someone who can make the draw he can. Canelo can and is only 23. I think its time for the touch to get passedComment -

#53I never said he shouldnt of won or couldnt of won, but he has had some conveniently timed fights though..... The Oscar fight and Ortiz fight were fishy, but look at the big picture. How many ppv sales was Mayweather getting when he was still "pretty boy"? people now pay to see him lose. And should he lose, how many sales would the next fight bring in? Boxing is just ridiculously rigged. Its happen too many times over the years to even argue itComment -

#54Less of course, but that doesn't prove much other than how dumbed down we've become as a country. We want blood and guts and reality TV, it's not exciting to watch a tactical boxing match any more than it is to watch a defensive battle in the NFL. We need our daily fill of cheap thrills to keep us on the edge of our worn seats so we become infused with excitement in our mediocre and average lives.Comment -

#55Mayweather is literally a master of his craft. When guys seem to throw 4-5 punches at his head and land just 1 of them, you know Floyd is something really special. If Floyd can dodge Canelo's power (which is what this fight comes down too), Floyd wins easily. I think Floyd wins this fight.Comment -

as far as conveniently timed fights....i mean...you have to look at it realistically...he was begging arum to get him the oscar fight...arum told him it wouldnt sell and hed lose money on it....he wanted shane and shane complained about a toothache and said he was goin on vacation(at that point it was high risk low reward for shane until floyd became the star and shane needed a big fight)....cotto wasnt realistic earlier on when we would have liked to have seen it too.......it wasnt until floyd broke free of arum that he was allowed to do what he wanted to do with haymon....
im not sure what you mean by the oscar and ortiz fights being fishy....he beat oscar....it wasnt wide....but i think he clearly won....plus he was stepping up in weight against a pretty tall and skilled fighter.....the ortiz fight....he was winning clearly...he frustrated the crap out of ortiz and ortiz tried to dirty the fight....floyd gave ortiz a shot and a great payday and he was repaid with a guy trying to turn it into a streetfight....ortiz tried to cut floyd and then wanted to hug and makeup....Comment -

#57when floyd was "pretty boy" he wasnt marketed right.....and that was on arum...arum marketed him as the clean cut all american boy with out of this world skills.....but as pointed out by Jetsfan that doesnt sell....

You really think Oscar lost that fight? how do you beat a champ with barely punching? if anything it should of been a draw. He beat Ortiz with a cheap shot, I havent seen too many fights go down like that which is why I referred to them as fishy.
I just dont trust boxing. Since the 80s and early 90s it seems to have just gotten worse and worseComment -

floyd lands more power punches than oscar did the entire fight and oscar was working off a good jab the first 8....oscar faded the last 4 rounds and jabbed less....had oscar been able to keep it up....maybe things would have been different....but thats just not fading...sometimes a guy is able to neutralize something(especially a guy like floyd who has a good ability to adapt and take things away later on) that was working
as far as beating ortiz with a cheapshot...ill say it again...floyd was frustrating the shit out of ortiz...ortiz was trying to push him against the ropes and unload....and he wasnt getting much in...and it was frustrating him(not to mention floyd was landing lead rights like nothing)....he decided to try and cut floyd with his head....what a way to thank floyd for a golden opportunity....that was just as cheapLast edited by bobby heenan; 08-21-13, 05:19 PM.Comment -

#59I don't know why people try to bring up the De La Hoya fight as if Floyd lost. I guess that's one of the few fights that was somewhat close. If you understand boxing and are an unbiased viewer, you would admit that Oscar faded late and couldn't hit Floyd. The fight wasn't really close if you're honest.
I think the past few months, we have seen some of the best boxing in over a decade. Incredible fights all back to back to back. UFC can't come close to the recent fights which make boxing the most exciting sport to me.
Sergey Kovalev beating down Nathan Cleverly was very entertaining.
Darren Barker besting middleweight champion Daniel Geale by split decision could be fight of the year.
Kiko Martinez battering "Momo” Romero
Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz punished Adailton DeJesus for five brutal rounds.
Featherweight Gamalier Rodriguez outboxed rugged Mexican Jorge Pazos over ten rounds.
Undefeated heavyweight Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KOs) extended his unbeaten and knockout streaks when he annihilated former world heavyweight champion Sergei “White Wolf” Liakhovich in the first round. Can Wilder be the guy to bring back the Heavyweight division or is he just beating up on a bunch of cream puffs?
Jesus Soto Karass beating Andre Berto on an incredible card. Omar Figueroa Jr. became the interim WBC lightweight champion in a unanimous decision over Japan's Nihito Arakawa which was a bloodbath. Keith Thurman took the interim WBA welterweight belt from Argentina's Diego Chavez with a 10th-round knockout. Thurman, who started slowly and had a bloody nose through the opening three rounds, rallied to win.
There have been some incredible boxing of late. Dating back to Pacman getting knocked out by Marquez. Week after week, this has been a boxing renaissance. Hope you all haven't been missing the action.

#60PUNCH STATS: De La Hoya landed 122 of 587 total punches (21%) to 207 of 481 (43%) for Mayweather. De La Hoya was also busier but less accurate with his power punches, landing 82 of 341 (24%) to 138 of 241 power punches (57%) for Mayweather

#61Landing a punch that does no damage shouldnt count but it does to judges and of course backers. BUT to everyone else and true fans its making the sport lose creditability. Boxing is still alive despite what people think but it is a dying sport. Next 20+ years it will just continue to decline. Mayweather winning the Oscar & Ortiz fight is like kicking a guy in the nuts and then claiming you kicked his ass. Yea you won but not in a respectful way. He didnt lose to Oscar but he didnt beat him either, he barely fought him. If you are going to beat a champ and take his belt then you need to beat him. Not run, your in a boxing fight. You signed up to get in the ring with someone, so fight. Until Mayweather does that, which he is fully capable of he wont be earning much respect. Watching him box is like watching a porn with missionary position only. Nothing exciting to seeComment -

#62how many punches did oscar land on floyd that did "damage"??? again floyd landed more power shots than oscar landed total.....sorry he cant hurt everyone....he did buckle oscar pretty good....and floyd was moving up for the first time in that weightclass...against a taller/longer guy...at least oscar was a legit 154 champ unline fighting for a vacant title at a catchweight against margarito....yet everyone wanted to act like pac was doing some amazing feat......the guy made hatton eat a turnbuckle when he was unbeaten(ok there was collazo)....he dominated and dropped jmm....he made shane eat a ton of shots that almost had nazim throwing in a towel.....floyd does have brittle hands.....and he protects them....for him to break his right hand would be a major setback....i dunno what you want from him...i guess you arent happy unless he ko's everyone......for me its fun to watch him outclass world class fighters and break them down.....he could care less if you like how he does it...youll still be watching....and here he is about to give you the one fight everyone wants to see
I honestly think skill wise he is the best. Maybe one of the best ever. But It was frustrating being his fan and not seeing him step up to the plate so many times and just dodge fighters, then just beat people on points. It turned me into not rooting for this guy because he became more of a spectacle outside of the ring. I am from the show me state and Floyd's career could of been much more impressive had he risked more. Your record doesn't make you great but the opponents you beat and how you beat them is what makes someone greatComment -

#67Exactly why I said Floyd didnt beat him. If you want your hands protected dont be in a sport where you have to throw them lol. Floyd has skills, but is still boring to watch. Ask 100 boxing fans and more than 90 of them will tell you the same thing, then ask 100 boxers their opinion of Floyd, he has game no doubt but no respect. He is the same as the guy who calls foul everytime he shoots the ball in basketball, he is the guy who takes a charge in a streetball game. Its nothing against his skill, cause he definitely has it. Its just respect, he hasnt earned it because of his style. He has had to create himself as a villain to sell tickets. Come on bro thats WWE material. What you do in the ring should be enough if your that good and his style just isnt enough. Its not my opinion its just how it is.

#69^^^ Who has Mayweather ducked? Who do you propose he should fight? What has he done to show the sport is rigged? I'm not following you?
I never pay for a Mayweather fight expecting a knockout. I know going in that I'm going to get a boxing clinic. I like the change of pace and it's just as entertaining to me than seeing 2 guys beating their brains out.
Mayweather has been fighting his entire life. He's not scared to get in the ring with anyone. That's a stupid assertion that he won't fight the top guys. His handlers tell him who to fight, plus he has to fight certain challengers in order to retain his belt. There's no one at his same level out there, that's why it's hard to find good challengers. Roy Jones had the same problem for many years.Comment -
