It was in response to Jibby saying he didn't trust crypto anymore after FTX. Not being able to trust a crypto exchange has nothing to do with trust in Bitcoin. You can literally hold all of your bitcoin in your own head there's no need to trust a crypto exchange and if you do and it goes belly up you can't blame that on Bitcoin. It would be like blaming fiat currency for what Bernie Madoff did.

I mean pretty much everything has had a great 30 days.

Personally, looking at the coins I have that havent outperformed BTC and ETH in this time frame. Unless they have some major upgrade coming up shortly, probably gonna dump'em. As much as I may not like it, gotta keep reminding myself this market is mainly based on hype. Doesnt matter how cool you think a project is if noone else gives a dam about it.

It's like any bull run. Everything goes up, the key is finding the right sectors. Last one was DeFi, the one before was privacy coins.

    The Ripple case is huge.

That's an interesting one. Ripple/XRP is considered the "banker's coin" yet they are fighting the SEC. Those two - the bankers and SEC - are usually in bed together....

Swapped all my XRP for Polkadot (ugh) a long time ago but rooting for XRP on this one... What's good for one crypto is good for all...

Flip the script once ripple beats the sec in court. Garlinghouse is an attention whore and has/will stop at nothing to better his project at the expense of bigger names like BTC or eth.

Once the case is done, ripple/garlinghouse will use the momentum to go after btc along with the banks as their interests will be aligned. Huge stable coin war on the horizon

Props to guys like Raiders/Arky who can keep up with these Alt-coins.

My knowledge is narrower and possibly dated. What i do know is that the USD is becoming less useful on monetary transactions.

Ask anyone who uses BTC for transactions? How nice is to go thru with the confirmation that shows up on the address?

I read about more countries making Gold coins. I read about more governments accepting BTC as payment. I know this thread is focused on Bitcoin...but I think there a broader angle that ties to "What is money?"

Wish I knew. The only thing I feel great about is a $100k BTC minimum this run.

Is BTC price now a proxy to Silver price?

    BTC = 22,500

    Silver (oz) = $22.41

    1000 oz Silver = 1.000 BTC

Which one will be higher on 12/31/2023?

SEC fined Kraken $30m for staking. Coinbase says the SEC may ban all staking for retail investors in the US. That's crazy since all PoS needs staking.

Yep, Kraken will have to stop implementing their centralized staking service. Pretty sure they (SEC) can't touch defi/onchain staking...

Just another example of the ignorance/greed of the "regulators". They have no idea what they are doing with crypto and just making it up as they go. "We can't figure out how to get a piece of the action so we'll just fine you"....

Omar, aka "Crypt0" had some thoughts on the subject (about 35 minutes if you have nothing better to do).

Edit: LocalBitcoins going out of business - also covered in the above video.

Disagree. Great move to squash this wild west market that looks like a weak point for crypto investors interested in long term gains and eventual stability.

There is a good reason you do not see every Tom, Dick and Harry offering the same type of staking service outside crypto. It's super dodgy and super risky and super open to exploitation.

Stable Coins are hopefully the next market segment smashed. Nott hat they are a bad idea, just that people do bad things with them.

ADA is safe since you can stake and still hold the keys if wanted.

But honestly, I would be surprised if there is any financial system that can work with unsecured investors having the ability to withdraw their investment instead of losing it if the investment goes bad.

If that's the promise, it makes less logical sense than CryptoZoo. Ponzi style promises.

Some regulation will be good. But the SEC has to stop getting involved until they write the rules on crypto.

It's risk/reward. Frankly, I prefer the wild west but too many are not ready to be their own bank. When you stake/custody to a centralized exchange, you're giving that up. As mentioned, there are ways to stake and still be able to hold the keys. There are ways to stake and not be subject to a lockup period. When the government is invited in, the over-reach will begin in short order....

Crypto.com recently nerfed their staking rewards again. They are obviously doing what they need to do but it is just not worth it (staking) with them anymore, IMHO. About 95% of my crypto is in my own wallets right now.

I did a calculation on staking my Ethereum at 5-6%. My value for a year's worth of staking is the same as if Ethereum goes up about $100. It's just about the same "earnings". Let's see....stake for a year and give up my keys or wait for Ethereum to go up $100? Of course, with staking you get more coins but it is only 5-6% of your stash. Is it worth staking 20 Eth for a year to earn 1 Eth? I opted to stop staking and hodl. Not worth it IMO, but I may revisit this after the Shanghai upgrade.

Ah, knew I recognized the voice.

I was way more into guitar bands and kind of punky stuff in the 80s/90s. That TISM song was designed to bait outrage from the media and celeb obsessed types, and was meant to be an anti-celeb-culture parody mocking those obsessed with their life/deaths. Last line was a true prediction before he died btw.
