    how is a free VPN safer than a pay one. if a person hacks the pay one they do the same thing?

    you pay for a vpn service that isnt used by a lot of people (like free vpns are). that in itself makes you less of a target for a hacker who is incentivized to go after the most accounts for their efforts.
