    My answer was immediately.
    The SBR answer was "on a change in possession."

    Rule 632 says:

    (c) Play shall be stopped immediately if a puck, other than the one officially in play, shall appear on the playing surface and interferes with the progress of the game.

    I am guessing the rules will say change of possession if not.

    Thanks for weighing in Opti, but with all due respect, I've played, broadcasted and officiated the game for 50+years. On a change of possession makes no sense. If my teams has the puck in the offensive zone on a power play and some dope from the stands throws a puck onto to the ice that lands on one of my teammates stick, they're going to allow play to continue? Let's not overthink this very logical rule. The referee blows the whistle, immediately.
