McCutchen best centerfielder in the game??

Was a bit surprised when MLB Network made him the #1 centerfielder in the league but do believe it is much deserved. Thoughts?

lol, no he might be top 10. dont know if youre talking defense or overall but he is below avg defensively and a good, not great hitter. overall he is around gardner, chris young, bourn, ajax, grandy, rasmus, span, guti. i do think he will have a big year though

Shane Victorino, Werth (RF/CF), Jay Bruce (RF/CF), Colby Rasmus and CarGo are better than him. And I'm just talking NL.

Obviously you guys haven't watched the pirates play.

Even Leyland said last year "he is a superstar". Dude is a fvcking BEAST! And to the guy that says his defense isn't there is just plain comical.

He had a slow 2nd half of the year last year and still put up overall numbers. He does not have the power as a guy like hamilton but he gets it done with the best of them.

Comparing Rasmus to mccutchen is a fuckign joke too. Guy cant hit a breaking ball. Numbers dont tell it all for a young guy like him. He has got it and obviously Im not the only one that thinks so!

Yeah, Car-Go is a corner outfielder.

McCutchen is another 5-tool guy that doesn't make his living off of any one category. He'll get you good batting average, some power, a good amount of runs and RBI, and steal a bunch of bases. He's not spectacular in any category (aside from possibly stolen bases), but he'll contribute in all of them, making him a great guy to have on your team.

McCutchen is a STUD! If he wasn't on the Pirates this wouldn't even be a debate.

    2009 uzr -1.3
    2010 uzr -14.4

he probably isnt as bad as the -14.4 but almost certainly is below average for a cf (which isnt bad)

uzr is a joke dude. it also says ronny cedeno is one of the top defensive shortstops in the league yet he might be one of the worst if you have ever seen him play! its just a sample size stat taking in a bunch of factors and putting out a number. watching him play is the only way to tell how good of a defensive player he is.

He started 58 games in center and 63 in LF. You can hardly say he's a LF only, sorry.

he was -3.6 last year, 0 the two years before that and -7 lifetime

Not the best CF today, but certainly not to say he won't be in 2013.

McCutchen is good. Very good actually. But the edge still goes to Torii Hunter. I will take a guy that gets 34 more RBI's over a guy that gets 24 more steals. Not to say McCutchen won't pass him soon, but I think Hunter still has him beat. And if you're talking only offense, Hamilton crushes his numbers if you consider Hamilton a CF only.

Didn't the Angels move Hunter to RF at the end of the year so they could bring up Borjous in CF?

Until the Pirates get some pieces McCutchen will never get the credit he deserves since nobody pays attention to the team. Either way though, he's probably not even a top 5 CF.
