    Trevor "the fraud" Hoffman retires

One time the guy pitched in a game that really meant something he blew it against the yanks in the WS in 98. Love to see these "great" reg season closers spit the bit come november. Joe Nathan also. Who I think two or three years ago was a clear second to the great rivera. what a fraud. who cares a bout a game in june. 603 meaningless saves. Just goes to show you how awsome the great mariano rivera is.

    Ignorant Yankees fan...

No respect for anyone unless they wore the pinstripes. Let me guess, you think Kevin Brown and Carl Pavano are all-time greats?

    no problem.

Matt Capps last year, Joe nathan this year.

not his fault twins never give him a chance to close a game in the playoffs

You've got to have some respect for the longevity that Hoffman has had, though, over his career. He had nine seasons with 40+ saves. I love Mo, but you can't be disrespecting 601 saves.

Yankees are a great team with a great history, but not every team can spend 200 million a year. I don't hate the yankees at all but i do hate fans that think only there team/players is/are amazing. Hoffman had a great career, HOF actually and he blew a game in the world series. Wasn't it Rivera who blew game 4 of the 2004 ALCS vs Boston. Even greats can not be perfect and yes they are both greats but Rivera>Hoffman. So quit trying to belittle Hoffman just because at the present he has more saves than Rivera and never played for the Yankees. Just respect the man for how great he was.

so you're saying if rivera played for some bum-**** team all his saves would be meaningless?

Yep, Ask Mariano Rivera if he has seen Craig Counsell lately? Loved Mariano's performance against the Diamondbacks.

Brx.... I am not sure how you can judge Hoffman on one game over the course of his career.

Should Mariano be judged by that moronic throw he made in Game 7 against the DBacks and that blown save?

Hoffman played on some really really bad teams, and still managed to save games. If you put Hoffman on the Yankees--- do you really think he wouldn't have done what Rivera has?

Their career ERAs are pretty close, Rivera is at 2.33, and Hoffman is at 2.57. Not shabby for either of them.

These guys play to win it all. Guarantee you ask any of them and they will tell you the couple playoff appearances they have had mean way more than the 100s or 1000 regular season appearances. I'm just judging him on his meaningful appearances.

Hoffman will be in the H.O.F.
He actually had 601 saves not 603
He also didn't have 1 meaningful appearance, he pitched 13 innings in the postseason those are all meaningful.
I agree rivera is better, but hoffman is no "fraud"!

Hoffman would of been better off never making it to postseason play.

Then would just be judged on reg season. All time great

I say BS, they play for their millions first of all, maybe after you have your 1st 50 Million , then you care about winning the WS. It's just a business both ways. I doubt a Manny Ramirez cares about a ring, others want it more than anything.

All will say they want the ring above all else....but they are liars. None would choose one year only ( rookie year only) for the ring , then miss out on the 50 M + career just so they got a ring when they were 23 and then blew out their arm, knee, etc.

Plenty of players don't care about winning championships in all sports.

guy of course they play for the money first. almost every one of them would trade a championship for a couple million. my point was after the money. leaving the money out of it.

I think Lee Smith should go in the HOF before Hoffman.

Lee Smith was a dominant closer in his prime.....He is overdue.
