so we arent debating the fielding? make up your mind

    better hitters:
    rollins
    hanley
    reyes
    young
    furcal
    tejada
    jj hardy

all clearly better numbers , except possibly furcal. but he is such a better fielder than jeter i will take him
do you watch yanks games only or something

I agree with Bear, MJ comes on here and gets crazy about everything because he is a fan of whoever is being discussed. Its ridiculous and he doesnt even fit his own standards "only people with brains should reply in this thread"

He is a Yankee fan, a biased Piston fan, and it all shows in his arguments.

Tulowitski, Beatancourt, Furcal, and Escobar have much better arms that Jeter for sure, I'm not sure about the others.

journalism school (supposedly, though not in this case), teaches you how to write , not how to rank shortstops

    Better hitter then Jeter????

    rollins .274 avg 6hr 31 RBI NO
hanley .311 avg 3 hr 45 RBI YES
    reyes .302 avg 10hr 43 RBI YES
    young .302 avg 7hr 52RBI YES
furcal (only played 32 games) NO
    tejada .275 avg 10hr 44 RBI NO
jj hardy .283 avg 13hr 40 RBI NO

    Derek Jeter .284 avg 5hr 42RBI

should be noted that all of these guys are in their prime besides tejada. Jeter is past his prime

and jeter 2007 numbers Avg .322 12 hr and 73 RBI

and the prior year he was in the MVP race

this guy will be the all time leader in hits like it or not

I am just telling it how it is

You can't compare Rollins numbers for this year to Jeters as Rollins missed a lot of time earlier in the season...
Hardy got only 2 rbi's fewer and .001 avg lower... He got 7 more HR's. If Jeter was playing for Brewers he wouldn't been near 42, would guess 21 or so..
I would easy picked Rollins, Hardy, Hanley, Young and Reyes before Jeter.
Can't realy say anything about Furcal as he have played to few games this year, but im more worried when Furcal bat's against the team I have my money on then when Jeter does
Jeter was my fav player before, but...

Btw, Yanks and Pistons when your from Philly!!! Would been better pissing on the american flag...

If your gonna make idiotic statements please show me where you are finding evidence to make these moronic claims.
Yes, I want to pay for an overpaid injury proned throws it like Mary. You can find a much younger/consistant bat for that kind of money in the outfield. NY did Boston a favor in that signing.

So what if a guy had a good two months. Where is he now...Getting paid to be on the DL. Where are the Yankee's... 3rd in the division.

If Jeter played on a team like Texas you never would of hear of him
He picked the perfect team and everything worked out
Of course he has had a great career

I think though he is done. The yanks would be nuts to sign him again and give him big money.

As a Yankee fan of sorts, the current Jeter isn't much of a player.....and is replaceable. The NY fans love him so it will be hard to not bring him back. He will most likely return but should get cut to about half ( or less) of current pay. Who else would pay over 10 million for him ?

Pay cut to half or less? I agree. Will never happen in a million years. He will get 80 to 100 million for 4 years. The yanks should tell him this is it after that. If you want to come back after the 4 pay is based on performance and a position switch might have to happen. He gets a minimum of 20 million a year for 4 years.

4 years would be insane for an aging SS....but they also have no choice but to sign the guy based on his 15 or so years as a Yankee and popularity.

Clearly he is no better than average on defense ( probably below average) and not that great with the bat either but OK. Longevity being rewarded now.

The next contract will be the last big money and it will essentially be a thank you for the 5 ticker tape parades. It is insane to give him 80 to 100 for 4 years but thats exactly whats going to happen.

He needs to transition to LF at some point if he wants to play too long and try to catch Rose.

agree with that estimate but he might try if they let him. He'd need to play until like 43 or something.

3 and 50 would be plenty generous. By then the NY fans would lose faith in this decling icon.

I like the guy overall, but he no longer is important as a piece of a winning team. Let him get his 3,000th hit as a Yankee ( next year) and he should fade away after the 2011 season by rites, or play way cheaper.....like Pettite had to.

I really think 3 and 45-50 will be more like what he gets....and it is far too much.

We can't really have this guy playing the most important infield position at 38-39 yo, he's not really DH material ( lacks power), is mediocre on defense already, time for LF soon.

DJ is a good baserunner and a smart player that hustles....just not the guy he was 5-10 years ago.
