An Everett man today pleaded not guilty to charges that he attacked a woman with a baseball bat on Halloween night in Boston while wearing a costume modeled after a fictional street gang from the 1970s cult movie, The Warriors.

Carmen Picardi, 39, was arraigned this morning in the Boston Municipal Court on charges of mayhem and armed assault with intent to murder. He was ordered held on $75,000 cash bail by Judge Robert McKenna.

According to Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley's office and Boston police, Picardi was dressed like a member of the "Furies'' – wearing face paint, a dark wig, and a baseball uniform – when he allegedly attacked the woman with a Louisville Slugger baseball bat.

The woman sustained serious injuries and needed 50 staples to close the wound.

After the attack, Picardi allegedly fled with three others and jumped into a Brookline taxi.
The driver, however, told them he was not licensed to pick up fares in Boston and ordered them out. The driver was interviewed by police.

Police collected images from nearby surveillance cameras and were shown photographs taken by partygoers that night, all of which helped lead them to Picardi, who was arrested in his Highland Avenue home on Friday.

The Warriors, released in 1979, tells how gangs across New York City target members of the Warriors after they are falsely accused of murdering a major street gang leader.
