The Tigers @ The Yanks....all you need to know...

    Det/NYY

    Line:
    Det +103/NYY -113
    Over/Under: 10.5

    Records:
    New York Yankees: 14-15
    Detroit Tigers: 13-15

    Trends:
Robertson is 12-23 against the moneyline in all games over the last 2 season. The tigers are 103-81 on the road over the last 3 seasons. Since May of 1997 the Yankees are 73-68 (-49.9 units) in home May games.

The Tigers are 10-5 in night games but only 9-14 vs. right handed starters. In road games this year Detroit is only averaging 4.4 runs per game.

The yanks are 1-1 at home with a total of 10-10.5, they’re 6-8 after a loss, and they’re 2-5 against teams with a losing record.

Det is 4-3 as a road underdog of +100-+125, they’re 4-0 on the road when the total is 10-10.5, and they’re 5-5 vs. teams with a losing record.

The Yanks are 17-8 SU in their last 25 vs. the Tigers at home.

    Weather:
A few showers are expected, but the game should be played. There will be a 10mph wind blowing from first to third, and the temp will be around 56 degrees. Cool and damp in the Bronx tonight.

    Team vs. Team:
In 2007 the Yankees batted .276 against the Tigers which was 11 points above the league average. The Bronx Bombers had about an average SLG% and OPS vs. DET in 07.

I would say that the Yanks didn’t have much success pitching vs. the Tigers last year as their ERA was 5.27, but that ended up being almost 50 points lower than the league average against the Yanks staff; The Tigers hit .267 against the NYY last season.

Against the men in pin stripes the Tigers had a 5.20 era which was a bit above the league average. DET gave up 78 hits in 71 innings and allowed 27 walks to go along with 49Ks in those frames.

    NYY Pitching:
A strength for the Yanks has been their bullpen performance. At home the pen has allowed an era of 2.64 and a WHIP of .993. Over 44.3 innings at home this Bullpen has only allowed 8 walks while managing 47Ks.

Ian Kennedy has only given up 11.5% LDs on the season, but he’s only logged 19 innings thus far. His big problem has been his control, and that is likely to be tested again tonight as he faces the team that walks more than anyone else in the Majors. Ian is walking 8.05 batters per nine while striking out 7.11 per 9. Kennedy’s favorite two pitches have been his FB (67.4%) and his change up (15.7%). His BABIP shows that he has been unlucky so far this season.

    NYY Bats:
The Yankees are 2-5 in their last 7 games and only batting .211 in those outings. The yanks have split vs. lefties, but they’re only batting .230 off left handed starters. The Yankees only have a .321 OBP for the season and its even lower at home and lower still over their last 7 games.

    DET Pitching:
Nate Robertson is 1-6 against the yanks with an era of 5.54 and a WHIP of 1.615 since 1997. His teams record is 1-7 in those starts while the under is 6-2. In Nate’s last start vs. the Yankees he was a +165 dog and lost the contest 6-1 with the total set at 10. In that game he allowed 10 hits in 6 innings while striking out 7. Robertson lost as a +215 dog vs. Wang in October of ’06 and again vs. Wang as a +180 dog in August of 2006. Robertson gave up one HR in each of those outings while also allowing 10 or more hits.

The Detroit Bullpen has been a bit of a disaster on the road. In 45 IP the pen has allowed 29 free passes and 25 ER.

Nate Robertson has been getting hit pretty hard so far in 2008; he has given up 24.2% LDs which is 5% over his career average. Nate has given up at least 6 hits and walked at least 1 batter in each of his outings this season. In 475 pitches Robertson has thrown his FB 60.6% of the time and gone to the slider 23.2% of the time. The lefty relies simply on FB, Slider, Change.

    DET Bats:
The Tigers have a very good team OBP on the season at .351 and that percentage has been 26 points higher over the last 7 games. In those most recent 7 contests DET is averaging 7.1 runs a game and hitting .286. The Tigers are the highest scoring team in the league at 5.1 runs per game and they lead the league in walks at 4.4 per contest.

    Bullpen availability:

Detroit Tigers relievers have pitched 7⅔ innings in the last 3 games.
New York Yankees relievers have pitched 12⅓ innings in the last 3 games.

    Injuries:
    Yankees:
3B Wilson Betemit Left eye 15-day DL (4/9)
RHP Brian Bruney Right foot 15-day DL (4/23)
RHP Philip Hughes Right oblique 15-day DL (4/30)
RHP Jeff Karstens Right groin 15-day DL (3/21)
RHP Carl Pavano Right elbow 60-day DL (3/22)
C Jorge Posada Right shoulder 15-day DL (4/27)
3B Alex Rodriguez Left quadriceps 15-day DL (4/30)
RHP Humberto Sanchez Right arm 15-day DL (3/21)

    Tigers:
RHP Fernando Rodney Right shoulder 15-day DL (3/21)
RHP Jordon Tata Right finger 15-day DL (3/21)
LHP Dontrelle Willis Right knee 15-day DL (4/12)
C Vance Wilson Right elbow 15-day DL (3/21)
RHP Joel Zumaya Right shoulder 15-day DL (3/21)

    Ball Park:

Day games tend to have more offense than night games. Low altitude, a deep power alley, and high grass make this more of a pitchers park.

    Umpire:

The home plate umpire here is Rick Reed. Reed seems to be a fair umpire overall. The total is 4-4 in his games this season while 16 of 30 went over when he was behind the plate in 2007.

    Line moves:

The line is about where it was when it opened. The public is about split on this one.

    Pick:
    Det +103

wish i was on it. i played the 6ers +400 in game one, but gave that back with my next couple plays in this series. philly shoots something like 36% at home and 66% from the line to go under by 1.

    congrats on the pod hit.
