See no reason not to bet the house on this...

    4/22...

San Francisco Giants @ Arizona Diamondbacks

    Barry Zito (0 - 4) VS. Brandon Webb (4 - 0)

(Last time they met 5 days ago, 4 - 1 ARI)

In Zito's defense, he hasn't been as awful this year as he has been the last few seasons, but his best years are obviously behind him.

On the flip side you have Brandon Webb, who if you guys haven't seen pitch often and only know for the stats, you are missing out. His stuff is amazing and his control is flawless. He is always a threat to go 9 innings of shutout ball against any team, and has already carved up CIN (6 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 BB) and COL twice (15 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB).

San Francisco has a terrible offense on paper, easily one of if not the worst in the league, and Webb shouldn't have any problem mowing through them again (8 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB last time out...)

The D-Backs meanwhile have an explosive offense, veterans Byrnes and Hudson are always good for clutch base hits and young stars Jackson, Upton, Reynolds, and Young are HAMMERING the ball. 4 runs was an off day for them and their 2nd chance at Zito AT HOME this time should provide some serious offense.

I really see like an 8 - 1 final here... I think if this game with this pitching matchup was played 10 times, D-backs win by 3+ 9 of them.

    ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS -1.5

    Good luck

Like the Dbacks as well. No run line up yet on my book so will have to wait till morning. Don't want to hit the ML with the steep steep price of -240.....if I do it will have to be part of a parlay. GL tomorrow.

Yep...Steep as hell price but I can't see the Giants putting up Shit on Webb. The D'backs should destroy Zito as well. I hate laying chalk on the RL so had my wager canceled hoping it would go down.

    Just some more fun stats...

D-Backs have played 18 games, Giants have played 19.

    League Rankings -

    Batting Average:
    5th) Diamondbacks .278
    25th) Giants .241

    Runs:
    1st) Diamondbacks 116
    30th) Giants 61

    Home Runs:
    3rd) Diamondbacks 25
    28th) Giants 9

    And did I mention that one of the league's top 5 pitchers in Brandon Webb (4 - 0, 1.86 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 22 Ks) was facing Barry Zito (0 - 4, 4.50 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, 8 Ks)?

Here are their '06 and '07 stats just for fun...

    2006:
    Zito 221.0 IP / 3.83 ERA / 1.40 WHIP / 151 Ks
    Webb 235.0 IP / 3.10 ERA / 1.13 WHIP / 178 Ks

    2007:
    Zito 196.2 / 4.53 / 1.35 / 131
    Webb 236.1 / 3.01 / 1.19 / 194

    Diamondbacks are 7 - 2 at home
Giants are 3 - 6 on the road

    Ok, I'm done

    -1.5, -140!

Obviously the bookies see this as a slamdunk too.

But the way to win at gambling is to find good odds and value, right?

If I win this bet 14 times out of 24, I break even. Meaning for this bet to be profitable long run, it has to have an expected winning % of 62.5

I for one definitely believe if this exact matchup took place 100 times, the D-Backs would cover 63+ times. So its still a good bet to me.

Good luck to those that follow!
