Red Sox - Manny Ramirez - Day off on Monday?

This could be good news for Ranger backers.

Pedroia Gets Sunday Off; Manny Monday?

Hello from Fenway Park, where the Red Sox are a Boston sports afterthought for the first time in a long while. The Bruins won a stirring Game 6 last night, the Celtics play Game 1 of their series tonight and the Boston Marathon is tomorrow.

Here at Fenway, Dustin Pedroia gets his first day off this season, with Jed Lowrie starting at second. Lowrie has now played short, third and second in the span of a week. Manager Terry Francona said he'd like to get Manny Ramirez a day off tomorrow morning, but the availability of Coco Crisp (hamstring) will make or break those plans.

Bartolo Colon played catch again today and is scheduled to start his official throwing program Tuesday.

Here is some more on this story from MLB.com.

Pedroia sits, Manny may be next

Twenty-game stretch convinces Francona to rest infielder
    By Ian Browne / MLB.com

BOSTON -- About two-thirds of the way through a stretch of 20 games in 20 days, Red Sox manager Terry Francona remains conscious of keeping his players fresh. That's why second baseman Dustin Pedroia was out of the lineup on Sunday, despite an eight-game hitting streak, not to mention a key double that sparked Saturday night's comeback.

Jed Lowrie filled in for Pedroia, both at second base and in the No. 2 spot in the batting order.

"It's fun to watch [Lowrie] play," said Francona. "He's shown his versatility in a hurry. It's his third position in three starts, and I don't think there are any qualms. He'll make the plays; he'll be fine."

With Sunday being the day game after the night game and Monday's 11:05 a.m. ET contest coming quickly, Francona felt like this was an opportune time to spell Pedroia.

"Yeah, he hasn't had [a day off] yet," said Francona. "I thought it would be to his advantage. A lot of times, when I look at days off or not starting a game, it's not so much who's pitching, because that's certainly something you try to factor in, but then it's more [a matter] of rest [and] recovery, and will it do a guy's body some good."

With that in mind, star slugger Manny Ramirez -- who is just four homers away from No. 500 -- might sit out the Patriots Day game against former Sox lefty Kason Gabbard.

"Manny's played every game," Francona said. "There are certain days that are just better than others to give a guy a day off. To me, that's the perfect day. But we've got to have Coco [Crisp] available, so I'm hopeful that will be the case."

Crisp has been sidelined since Wednesday with soreness in his right leg.

Boston team total Under 5.5 runs (-115 thegreek)

Without Manny in the lineup this is an easy bet. The redsox have not faced Gabbard yet and we all know that Gabbard is going to be highly motivated to pitch against the team that traded him. It cost him a world series ring. Gabbard has the best stuff among the rangers starters. Its good news for Gabbard as Manny Ramirez may have the day off. What do you all think of the team over under.

Yes, he only had one at bat, because he got ejected.

But it is always good to have a hot batter not starting the game. He is not in the starting lineup for this morning.

Big Papi, Pedroia, Youk, Lowell (and maybe more Sox not seen on camera) were all at the Celtics game last night. I doubt they just went home after the game. Perhaps a good spot to catch the BoSox with a 'hangover'
