The Mets had a much sweeter deal on the table but cut off negotiations.

DENVER -- Catcher Yorvit Torrealba, who flirted with leaving Colorado to join the New York Mets as a free agent earlier this month, will instead return to the Rockies.

Torrealba, 29, has reached a contract agreement with the Rockies, the Denver Post reported Thursday, citing multiple sources. He returned to Denver to take a physical. The Post also said that reliever Matt Herges has reached an agreement with the Rockies to return.

Torrealba's deal is worth $7 million over two years, with an option year, according to the Post. Torrealba has had trouble with his right shoulder, but the Rockies say they aren't concerned about him failing a physical, the Post reported.

In mid-November, Torrealba's agent said his client would accept a three-year, $14.4 million offer from the Mets. However, the Mets said the agreement was never finalized and cut off negotiations. The Mets later traded for veteran Johnny Estrada.

Torrealba batted .255 with eight homers and 47 RBIs in 113 games for the Rockies this season. He was roundly praised for a deft touch in expertly handling Colorado's young pitchers.

Herges was 5-1 with a 2.96 ERA for the Rockies last season. He appeared in 35 games. Herges was originally offered a one-year deal for $2 million, according to the Post. The paper said the deal will likely include an option year as well.
