Tuesday's Front Page Plays (Sep 25)

Play Milwaukee Brewers (-143) vs. St. Louis Cardinals

    Game Time: 09/25/2007 08:05 PM -
    By: Al McMordie | bigal.com

Jeff Suppan has been solid at home for the Brewers tonight, and he'd love to beat his former teammates in this one. Make your play on Milwaukee against St. Louis.

Our Tuesday MLB selection is on the Milwaukee Brewers, as we will fade St. Louis who has lost its last 10 games on the road, and been outscored 70-31 over that stretch.

Jeff Suppan gets the start for Milwaukee, and he's been solid at home this season with a 7-3 record and a 3.97 ERA in 15 outings. And in his career vs. St. Louis, Suppan is 4-2 with a 3.64 ERA. St. Louis righty Braden Looper was shelled last week as Houston beat the Cards 18-1, and Looper has struggled in his nighttime starts this season, with a 6.47 ERA (compared to 1.69 in the daylight). Take Milwaukee.

    Free Pick: Brewers -143

Devil Rays +1˝ (+117) vs Yankees

    Game Time: 09/25/2007 07:10 PM -
    By: Steve Merril | 10starpicks.com

With Roger Clemens set to start for New York and the Yankees fighting tooth and nail to get into the postseason, this line has been inflated. Take Tampa Bay at home on the run line.

The oddsmakers are continually forced to inflate the lines on teams that are still fighting for a playoff spot, and value is often found when playing on underdogs in this situation. This was evident yesterday when the Yankees lost outright as a -235 favorite versus Toronto.

The line is once again inflated in this game and the Devil Rays fit a subset of my Underdog System. The +1˝ run line provides extra value with Tampa’s Jason Hammel on the mound. Hammel is in excellent current form with a fantastic 2.35 ERA and 1.130 WHIP in his past four starts plus a powerful 17-4 strikeout/walk ratio.

Meanwhile, Roger Clemens is less than 100% healthy as he missed yesterday’s start in order to further rest his sore hamstring and sore elbow. Clemens remains overrated this season as evident by his weak 5.09 EA on the road in eight starts.

Free Pick: Devil Rays +1˝ (+117)

NY Mets -1˝ (-109) vs Nationals

    Game Time: 09/25/2007 07:10 PM -
    By: Vernon Croy | 10starpicks.com

While the Mets have faltered down the stretch, veteran Tom Glavine has kept them from further demise. Back New York at home in Shea tonight versus the Washington Nationals.

This pick falls into one of my MLB systems and the Mets are the superior team here tonight.

Tom Glavine (13-6 ERA 3.97) is 7-1 at home with an ERA of just 3.33 and 1-0 with an ERA of just 1.38 against the Nationals this season over 13 innings. Glavine is also 6-0 since the All-Star break with an ERA of 3.40 over 79.1 innings and he is simply the superior pitcher on the mound tonight.

The Mets rebound big time after the loss last night and the Nationals are just 30-46 on the road this season with Glavine 22-11 against the Nationals with an ERA of just 3.03. The Nationals are just 17-29 when playing a team with a winning record in the second half of the season and the Mets bounce back tonight with plenty of run support for Glavine.

    Free Pick: Mets -1˝ (-109)

    Back Indians (+130) at Mariners

    Game Time: 09/25/2007 10:05 PM -
By: Jimmy the Moose | sportspic.com

Cleveland is a red-hot 22-6 over the last four weeks and will keep that run going this evening on the road in Seattle. Take the Indians as the underdogs against the Mariners.

The red hot Indians are 22-6 in their last 28 games. In their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning record they are 13-3. In their last 26 games following a win, the Indians are a profitable 19-7. Cleveland has won five of Aaron Laffey's last six starts and is 4-0 in his last four road starts.

The Mariners are 5-13 in their last 18 games following a loss. Seattle has dropped seven of their last 10 home games. In their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning record, the M's are 4-13. Cleveland has won nine of their last 12 visits to Seattle. Play on the Indians.

    Free Pick: Indians +130
