i cringe at all these contracts but if anyone is worth it, trout is.

no idea why baseball gives 10 year contracts to erratic 28 year olds (this is not trout)........ i think 5 year contract, at a significantly higher salary per year, works better for everyone.

has anyone walked away from later years of huge contract? i'm guessing there have been buyouts.

will trout have never done arbitration or free agency? pretty sure this is the new baseball model. arguably bad for the big market teams but of course other teams can dump their big salaries on those teams and they will still get good players. not sure they'll get the best players in their prime though (note: boston and nyy have great at developing players too)

I think baseball will have a drop in attendance and leadership like the NFL this year.
People are broke, I dont see sustaining revenue for such a long season

If you remember, the last extension they gave Trout was below market value and a bit of a hometown discount. Averaged out over the life of the contract, he's a bargain.

i'm sure the yanks would gladly pay him $100MM per year if they could and there weren't other financial implications.

the 12 years is what stands out but it's way way better than paying harper for 13 years

Mother fukker is making $68 per minute for the next 12 years.

Every single minute, even when he is not working/playing.

just compare his stats with the first 8 years of albert pujols's. trout's lack of doubles stands out and all his stats pale in comparison to albert's. gets way too much credit for the walks he receives which inflates his on base pct. dramatically. he's solid and good but it appears the club has enough revenue flow to overpay him so they did.

when u listed those numbers only person I thought of was pujols he had video game numbers for about 10 years. angels games come on too late for east coasters they knocks out quite a bit of ratings right there

Its a dumb argument to say Trout is getting overpaid here, Kershaw alone makes nearly 35 million per, Trout is far more valuable than every player making close to what he gets.

Hay darkie, you are ignorant as f*** and have NO IDEA what lucifer has in store for you. That said, gopd move by Trout. Another bad deal by the Angels my lord Pujols still on the books for 2 more years. Trout is 20% of their payroll and an everyday player. That could be scary.

Just because you dont understand WAR doesnt mean its crap lol Its probably the best statistic to measure a players impact in ANY sport.
Id rather have a guy .307/30/110 who walks 140 times a year. Trout is an above average defender and a significantly above average base runner. Pretty remarkable consdering his body type. Last year his OPS approached 1100 to go along with 191 WRC+.

Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman analyze Mike Trout's record-smashing deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for 12 years, worth over $430 million. Stephen A. and Max not only agree that Trout is worth the money, but he even has a chance to go down as the greatest player in MLB history.

Stephen A. Smith, Jeff Passan, Michael Wilbon and more all chime in after the news broke that Los Angeles Angels secured Mike Trout for a giant 12-year, $430 million deal.

Mike Trout says the commitment from the Los Angeles Angels meant a lot to him and played a big role in his decision. Trout says living on the east coast played a role in his decision but in the end staying in California was best for him and his family. Trout says it was cool to think about the possibility of playing for the Philadelphia Phillies but he is happy to be an Angel for life. Trout expects ups and downs throughout the next 12 years but in the end the goal is championships.

Mike Trout joins SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt to talk about; his new, long-term deal with the Los Angeles Angels, Bryce Harper and Manny Machado’s moves in the offseason, his decision to retire with the Angels instead of moving home to cap off his career on the East coast, dealing with the weight of a high-profile, max contract and if he feels pressure to prove his worth.
