With very good reason, how often do these sorts of big money long term contracts go bad, too many to count.

Cuse he is faithful to the LDS religion and we abstain from alcohol. Bryce is a good dude despite what people say/think. So what if he has had some moments on the field. I actually liked when he charged the mound a couple times.

Dodgers offer 4 years $180 million - 45 million per year - but Harper wanted the larger GURANTEE money / he didn’t pick the giants because of high California tax

Plus what hitter wants to play at AT&T park? I was glad for him he did not sign there.

Money was first and location was 2nd - machado sign in San Diego - expect his numbers 2 dip - Harper did not wanna go 2 Philadelphia- they offer him that $300 million for awhile - and he finally took it at the end - because the giants and dodgers can not come up with more money

Petco is actually a good hitter's park. It only seems like a pitcher's park because Padres' hitting has been terrible for long time.

He is now paid and will have 0 motivation to get better

Congrats Philly, youve eclipsed MN Mauer contract a decade ago (10 years/ $250mm for a 1st baseman that hits .265 w 11 hrs and 70 rbi) and just bet the franchise till fukking 2030 (think about that) on a guy that hit .245 last year and wiffed 170 times.

Guy had averaged 70 less total bases per year in 17, 18 than his mvp year. Thats literally 35 doubles or 16 hrs less per year in production since 1 mvp year.

Bad deal for Philly. Plus his stats there ain't so great and the East knows his trends.
agreed 100%......... people overlook his horrendous slump last year........ did prime A-Rod, bonds, pujols, trout etc. even have a slump remotely like that one last year

He is not even in his prime yet. Guy just has his 26th birthday a few months ago. Plus my goodness one year of .249 is not guaranteed .249 life time. Last time he hit that low he was .313 the following season.

    I wouldn't mind betting the o.p. on the over/Under.
I'll even set It at 50, and I take the under

Assuming payment is made beginning of season (aggressive) and 5% annual time value of money, the present value (in today's dollars) of this $330 million 13 year contract is $250.47 million for Harper.

The present value of Machado's 10 year, $300 million is $243.23 million.

Very closely the same and if Phillies are expecting a higher growth rate, the longer contract makes sense. Not sure about growth potential in either market so cannot make a sensitivity analysis on that.
