The fact of the matter is machado and Harper are not that great. If it was Trout, every team would hand out 300 million dollars. Harper has 1 great season and Machado plays in Camden yards and he doesn’t like to hustle. In baseball, players don’t sell tickets, winning does.

Really most of the time when teams open there wallet they get burn - this is the 1 rare case where it’s working right now - but it’s only 1 year - let’s see what he does when the contract is done

Despite rumored offers/wishes of teams, word is Bryce Harper is not signing — or even considering — short-term deals.

If the NBA cut down on MAX deals.... these 25 mil per year etc contracts.... I think these players would be pissed off.... force another lockout with the players union. Cuban kind of hinted... along with other owners... they are making a killing. So, I don't know how you'd stop these mega deals?

Typically... once something hits a MAX LEVEL... how do you subtract it? Make it normal again? It's impossible.

The NHL doesn't pay as much.... great tool to go by... but they also don't draw that much revenue compared to the NBA owners.

Basketball only have a 12 men roster - it’s a players league - teams market there superstars- owners are making a shit load of money - nobody is going break up a good thing ? Nobody even watches hockey - they can’t handle a real men sport

No, you really don’t. Baseball is by nature an unspectacular sport. It’s not like basketball where you see amazing athleticism and the height and size of these players is a sight to behold.

What’s so spectacular about what Harper does that you need to see him live... Even if you disagree, you probably can only enjoy 10 minutes total for his at bats and the rest of time he’s standing in the outfield or sitting on the bench.

Cities could jack up nba rents or stop paying for stadiums for a start

I dont understand the repeated "you have to see Harper live" argument

1- he's in RF and is average at best defensive

    He's a .250 hitter

He's got pop in his bat, but so does Max Kepler lol

Is Bryce Harper worth 10 Max Keplers?

It's baseball. Harper hasn't won anything, hasn't done anything and still has that shithead attitude in the clubhouse.

The game is about 8 guys in the field not making errors, 1 pitcher going 5 innings, a pen going 4, and guys moving runners into scoring position. Can't do that if you hit .250 and KO 180 times a year.

Fun to watch yes, build a franchise around no

Great 2 year investment for LA or NY, but he won't sign that type of deal

He was a .250 hitter last season, but career is .280, so it's more likely that is what he is. And almost .400 OBP and .900+ OPS. And he's 26 years old. And he's never K'd 180 times. 120-130 is his typical. He's better than what you're giving him credit for, but I get the argument that you can't pay him 400 million if that means not being able to fill the roster with talent. Pitching is non-negotiable.

Harper is a 15 million a year player. I applaud the owners for sticking it to these 2. 400 mill for a guy who admits he doesn’t hustleBoras is taking a huge L here. No one is giving either one ten years at that money, or at any money. Might as well retire. Hope he doesn’t hold his breath waiting.

GM's have figured out that no matter how good someone is, he can only take the team so far; it's not like hoops where one guy can take a team to the playoffs. In the salary cap era, there's a de facto salary ceiling unless you want to go cheap everywhere else and only win 65-70 games.
