Why the Angels on Friday at -104...The Angels come into this game after getting edged out by Oakland the night before in extras. Tyler Skaggs will be looking to get his 2018 campaign off on the right foot and really prove as to why he should stay atop the Angels rotation. Skaggs comes into this game after posting a poor 9.00 era through 11 spring training innings but something to note here is that he did allow 3 HRs which should play well opening his season in the pitcher friendly confines of Oakland. Another positive from Skaggs ST was that he did K more than IP which should benefit him against an A's lineup which he has proven he can strikeout. This current A's lineup has a combined 57 ABs off of Skaggs with a combined .298 BA and 2 HRs. Very little exposure to this A's lineup which shows value in Skaggs. In 2017, Skaggs was a 4.55 overall era guy but his era dropped to 4.32 era on the road. Skaggs last pitched IN Oakland last September where he went 6 innings allowing 3 ER on 1 BB and 9 Ks. The Athletics will be sending Sean Manaea to the mound who did not show strong numbers during his ST. In 10 innings, Manaea allowed 2 HRs while walking 5 and only 9 Ks. Going to fade Manaea in his 2018 opener because the Angels love to see this guy. In a combined 85 ABs, the Angels have a .306 BA/.372 OBP and 3 HRs against Manaea. Offensively, the Athletics were 35-52 against LHP in 2017.
