Darvish huh... as a Cubs fan I'm not sure I like this move. He was good with the Rangers... but did not do so well last year for the Dodgers... big flop in WS

I like it. This is a huge spot for yu. He should push for the top spot in rotation.

Because Houston figured out if he was going to pitch a fastball or not.

It's a bargain based on past contracts, but it's a new market. Be interesting to see how the rest of the chips fall.

I'm not sure if he's #1 or #4 on the Cubs.

    Lester
    Hendricks
    Quintana
    Darvish
    Chatwood

That's a really strong rotation, although perhaps missing the ace ace.

I'm not so sure I'd be that quick to brand based on a game or two.

I know the Cubs game I saw him at Wrigley (Game 3) he was dominant.

I can see him winning a whole lot of games at Wrigley behind that team.

He is not just an innings eater; and on that he's only gone 200+ once, so that's really not his thing. I'd be more worried he won't eat enough innings. But tell me that top 4 in the Cubs rotation can't line up against anybody.

I had preferred re-signing Arrieta, but if Theo thought he was the better fit, I'll buy it.

Was a no-brainer. They were out of it and he had an expiring contract. Of course they traded him.

Yes, he pitched poorly in the WS. Was that a couple of bad starts or an inability to pitch in the offseason. Given that he will pitch the next 6 seasons with the Cubs, we will get to find out. He'll be pitching lots of playoff games.

See this is where you get carried away. You assume that him signing with the cubs makes his life easier but in reality we both know in baseball that big pitching signings mostly fail.

Huh? Where did I suggest anything like that? It doesn't make his life "easier" because he is going to be exposed to the playoffs, a lot. If he actually can't pitch in the playoffs, it will be exposed.

Pitching is definitely hit or miss though. A lot can go wrong. This is Theo's second big pitching signing with the Cubs, the first was Lester. Kind of amazing actually that this signing is actually for quite a bit less money and that's 3 years later. The market price was hotter 2-3 years ago. If Darvish had been a FA 2 seasons ago, he could have gotten a lot more.

Based on this thread, Darvish is wildly underrated.

Darvish is the only starter in MLB history (w/100+ starts) to avg over 11 strikeouts per 9 innings.
