In the case of Chris Archer, he left the Tampa Bay game with right lateral forearm tightness.
In the case of Max Scherzer, the only details I got is Max was limping as the was trying to leg out a hit.
I thought Tampa Bay was going to sneak a wild card game, not without Archer they aren't.
Archer isn't just a staff ace, he's a bona fide legit ace.
Snell, or Odorizzi, or Fariria, or Alex Cobb can be counted on to fill Archers shoes.
Cobb is an OK #2 rotation starter, he and Archer are the only real innings eaters, and if your starters can't eat up innings that taxes a bullpen and TB's pen isn't very good.
Yes Colome has 41 saves, he hasn't been lights out at all saving those 41 games, and the save statistic is a joke, like the quality start stat is a joke, you can come into a game in the ninth with a 3 run league, give up 2 runs, wiggle out of your mess and earn a save. Colome is an ordinary closer, hardly elite. Tommy Hunter is a nice set up guy however the rest of that 'pen is leaky at best.
Good thing the Rays offense can mash, get the rest of those ordinary starters some runs.
Rays are three games back of the second wild card team, the Rays schedule the final month is brutal, wicked brutal, every game with American League leaders or wild card leaders or team in the thick of the wild card, plus an inter league set with the Cubs.
Nationals are still going to win their division, in a sleep walk at that, but without Max, and a healthy Harper, their not going to win their first round series against the Cubs, looking at the standings, it's imminent that the Cubs and Nationals are going to meet, and the Dodgers will play more than likely the Diamondbacks.
Nationals aren't going anywhere with a healthy Cy Young and MVP award winners even though Gio and Strasburg along with a healthy Scherzer make that trio a top three, and maybe a top two 1-2-3 top of the rotation pitching staffs in the game.
