great pick up for any team in contention. He had a off year last year and still hit 24HR and drove in 79. I think he is only 31 still plenty left in the tank.

They know that Cubs own the division for the next few years. Timing to contend is not right. Time to break it down, and try again in about 3 years. Good for me. I'll have my pick of what seat I want when I go there in August next year.

    I feel bad for Cutch

signed a super team friendly extension right before he got MVP good

guy gets paid like a good utility player

now in 2019 when he is A FA again he may not get that big of a contract

Ever since he cut his hair before the start of the 2015 season, his career went downhill.

As a Mets fan, Im all for this. He's been on the decline the last year and a half. Let him languish in the Nat outfield with the other dinosaurs.

as a met fan, i wish we got him. 24 hr's? we could use that in our often inept lineup. still not over losing murphy to them. guys a clubhouse leader as well.

guys number ended up being mediocre but they were super lackluster until a big surge in August and September.

as a Pirate fan, it was clear he was a HUGE part of the reason the Pirates didn't compete when they needed him April thru July

too little too late from him last year

Pirates are just cheap as usual, they never dole out any money, Cutch made the mistake of resigning with them in the first place. Just a crappy organization in a miserable city. He still led the team in homers, he batted .256 so what, do you know how many every day players who batted lower and wasnt half as good many? Its baseball you go through slumps, his talent is solidified, last season he finished 5th in MVP voting, year before that, 3rd, year before that he won it, year before that 3rd. Yea, Pirates are losers, Ill be glad when he's gone it will haunt them for a while.

One thing that was very noticeable in the past year was that his speed diminished drastically. Only 13 steal attempts while getting caught 7 times.

He's had lingering knee issues, he's the 3 hitter, him stealing bases isnt a need anyway.

I find it hard to feel sorry for anyone who is making 14 million plus a year for playing baseball and having 4 months vacation. He never should have signed a 6 year deal. In your prime you sign 3 maybe 4 and then become a free agent again. Hey maybe 51.5 million 6 years ago was a super contract. He seems to be a classy guy so I wouldn't say anything negative about him. Good person and good player and his 14 million will be more than the average person will ever see.

This isn't totally about money, it's just one factor. The Pirates are like about half of MLB, they can only spend so much & have to constantly restock the farm system because they can't afford more than 2 or 3 stars at one time on the roster. They already have Marte and Polanco in the outfield and Austin Meadows is ready to join them in the big leagues. Need to get a veteran starter & starting pitching prospects for him now. He just turned 30 & has two years left on his contract, so it's the best time to get the most for him. If their young pitching takes a step forward & Cole can actually stay healthy, they can compete for one of the wildcards without Mcutchen. I love the guy, but that's how it is in a small market town where football & hockey rule the roost ahead of baseball.

Pirates have plenty of cash with that low payroll.
