Aroldis Chapman is still in the game with a 7 run lead.

He just got 8 outs on Sunday and they will surely need him tomorrow in Game 7.

I have no problem using him like he did in Game 5 but this is silly and desperate.

    Here's how tomorrow plays out.

Cubs up 1-2 runs late, chapman brought in for a save more than an inning but less than 2.

Chapman wildly ineffective due to fatigue giving up hits and walks. Indians win walking off of Chapman.

The curse lives on under the most heart wrenching of circumstances for cubs fan.

All caused by maddon using Aroldis in the 7th, 8th, and 9th in a game where they had a 5-7 run lead.

Maddon never allowed to return to Chicago.

I wonder if this is going to be the way baseball is played now.

Closers coming in high leverage situations early on, sixth, seventh inning, etc.

    It should be. It's smart.

Closers would riot. They get paid based on how many "SV"s they have.

    They would have no choice.

Plus, I'm sure there would be a new stat developed.

He's obviously an idiot. Watch Chapman give up runs tomorrow night and people will look back at this game.

It won't happen because starters go deeper into games in the regular season.

    So?

It wouldn't happen all the time, but it could still happen in big games. If there is such a thing, in the regular season.

It's just impossible to ask for example Miller to throw 2 innings on a regular basis.
It will happen more often for big games or postseason period.

Agree. The closers need to face the most dangerous part of the lineup, and if it's in the 6th inning with a tunner or two on, so be it.

It is amazing how many posters here on SBR know big league managing and the current strengths and weaknesses of the Cubs MORE than Joe Madden.

I'm guessing it is the same geniuses that were throwing dirt on the Cubs down 3-1

Madden seemed to get his team to game 7... hmmmm

That would be epic if that's how it plays out. I'll give you $100 USD worth of bitcoin tomorrow night if the game actually ends as you called it.

Chapman is a rare breed. Maddon thinking crazy. But it's worked for 2 games. How many times you going to ride the horse until the horse collapse? He was getting a little wild during the last batter he faced.

Good call on Chapman....its one thing to use him last night for a key out or 2 but he threw 40+ pitches in a 5 run game? Maddon may never live this down if Cleveland wins it! This series was over if he plays it right!
