Diamondbacks Hire Red Sox Executive As Their New GM
Less than two weeks after firing Dave Stewart, the Diamondbacks have hired their new general manager (and executive vice president) -- former Red Sox exec Mike Hazen.
Report: Torey Lovullo could become Diamondbacks’ next manager
On Sunday afternoon, the Diamondbacks named Mike Hazen the club’s new vice president and general manager. Hazen came from the Red Sox, where he had been GM after Ben Cherington under Dave Dombrowski.
There could be a ripple effect from that hiring. Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reports that current Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo could follow Hazen to Arizona to become the club’s new manager. The Diamondbacks recently let go of previous manager Chip Hale as part of its shakeup.
Hazen is being overdescribed by these headlines.
Essentially, he was Dombrowski's water boy.
Here's a more accurate description by Over The Monster:
Mike Hazen was not a general manager as we used to know them, instead acting as second-in-command to Dave Dombrowski, who was the man making the final decisions. http://www.overthemonster.com/2016/1...o-diamondbacks
