    Chapman officially a Cub

Aroldis Chapman is now a Cub, with the #Cubs sending Torres, McKinney, Warren and one more player to #Yankees, per @JonHeyman

That's a huge haul for about 30 total innings.

AS someone who watched his first few games live; i can tell you this guy is electric. Sucks as a reds fan that he will be battling them forever. Would suck to see him against my rangers in the world series

That is a huge haul for NYY. It's kind of the reverse of what the Cubs did when they traded Samardzija and Hammel for Russell +. Didn't work out for Oakland. It's an all-in bet. If the Cubs win the World Series, then it's a grand slam. If they don't, then it could feel bad in a few years. Of course the Cubs feel like they can churn out hitting prospects, so maybe the sting isn't as bad. Still, a bit surprised they unloaded Torres and McKinney for a rental.

If Cubs do not win World Series, they will feel even worse if Chapman re-signs with Yankees after this season.

The Cubs lead the NL in OBP and BB. They are just 4th in HR. The evidence really doesn't jibe with your mistaken impression. And that is with some key injuries are various points. They are much improved now with Fowler back.

If they got this for Chapman, I can only imagine what they'd get for Miller with 2 more years of control. Personally, I think they should go ahead and trade him and get a haul back. But this deal was a no-brainer for NYY.

No doubt. All-in like Beane went all-in a couple years back. As a Cubs fan, I hope this works out better. Then again, the Cubs have more pieces for sustained success than Oakland had, but still.

Cubs also recently added LH Montgomery from the M's and Joe Nathan made his first appearance yesterday and struck out the side. The Cubs biggest weakness - bullpen - may become of the bigger strengths. Chapman, Rondon, Strop, Nathan, Montgomery, Wood. No more Richard, Cahill, Grimm, etc. garbage. Rondon was already a really good closer, so this just gives a potent righty-lefty punch for Maddon to work with.

As mentioned, Cubs only win if they win World Series. There are strong rumors that Chapman will re-sign with Yankees, which would make Yanks the obvious winners getting that haul for free.

Doesnt mean Yankees lost. Im sure this was the bestvhaul they could get and it would have been malpractice not to trade Chapman. Top SS prospects are gold.

I live in Colerain Township and use to follow them a lot when my girlfriend brothers was qb for them roughly 15 years ago. Currently have a few buddies that their sons play on the team. Always cool to see someone on a forum that lives close by.

Better hope they don't have to face the Mets, but even then they still won't win the series.

they are 56-1 when leading after 8 innings

    how much does this help?

More for playoffs when bullpens matter more...I think a guy like Chapman can help any team obviously

Hes not extending with them and will hit free agency which is a big price for a rental though

Cubs have 10 blown saves. But I don't think that's really the way to look at it. Rondon is not a bad closer at all, just like Miller in NY, but the Cubs didn't have a lockdown lefty and he just thickens the bullpen that much. So they can go Rondon in the 8th if they want to. Or Chapman in the 8th and Rondon close is matchups call for it. It definitely strengthens the bullpen a lot.
