Will Kyle Schwarber go down as the greatest hitting catcher of all time?

In honor of the Carlos Correa thread.

Also, Schwarber has a better chance of this honor than Correa.

Seriously though, Schwarber is a beast. If he can actually stick at C?

if he's gonna be the greatest hitting catcher, he's got a long ways to beat mike piazza.

Yep. Good thing he's only 22. Plenty of time. Granted I'm Cubs biased, but for anyone who has followed and watched his at bats, I don't think many will be completely doubtful of the notion. His plate presence and hands for a big kid off the charts. Actually the comp that comes to mind is a left-handed version of Pudge. A bit short and stocky, but a good athlete, with a great sense of zone and a quick short stroke. Obviously I'm talking hitting only, he'll never be a defender like Pudge.

What a beast this kid is at the plate.

I'm deadly serious that if he sticks at catcher he goes down as one of the best hitting catchers we've ever seen.

    No.

Because he won't be a catcher many more years.

Kid really is a great hitter, but he will be a corner infielder or outfielder in a few years.

He has such a ridiculously long way to go before even entertaining this convo. Remember how good Joe Mauer was? Look at him now.

is he not very good defensively?

is he fast enough to play outfield?

Rizzo is going to be a chicago cub for a long time. I can't see them parting ways with Schwarber either unless its in a trade for a big time pitcher or something.

He has been adequate behind the plate, and that is a compliment for a 22 y/o rookie. But his bat may be too big to risk at C.

Yes, he's fast enough to play OF. He's stocky, but he's a former LB and not fat. Runs pretty decent for a C. Will he be a great LF fielder? No, but if Matt Holliday and others can do it and be part of winning teams, so can he.

Not sure how long he'll stick at C, we'll see. But he will stick for a long time as a big league hitter. Will be an OPS monster. Already is. He's definitely ahead of Kris Bryant at the plate at this stage.
