Through my two betting experiences this week, I learned that you should stay away from rookies. I bet on virgil vasquez on sunday night and thought that rookies would be easy to bet against. As a result, I bet on Daniel Cabrera over Jesse Litsch. Litsch turned out to pitch a very good game.
From these experiences, I learned that rookies are too unpredictable to bet on. What do you all think?
I think if you have a good eye for what's going on with the rookies, and combine that with various other factors of games and the value in the line, there can be great opportunities with rookies. The erratic nature of their first starts is something that can be exploited when assessing line value.
I never bet on rookies. I pass if the rookie looks solid. I bet against rookies though if, for example, the rookie is a right hander and going up against a club that shells righties. I made some great bank when Lincecum had his debut. Kid got bombed. LOL!
