Papelbon on his way to Milwaukee?

This would tie up 13 mil this year and 13 mil next year if he hits his appearance incentive.

Pap would add to the long line of relievers that the Brewers have acquired during the down hill off their prime in the past 8 years:

    Trevor Hoffman
    Derrick Turnbow
    Francisco Rodriguez
    Francisco Cordero
    Jonathon Broxton

All had new found success after joining the Brewers.

Does make sense to spend some of that 9 million saved from Yo Gard on a reliever, but for this price tag? Safe to say they are not adding another starter.

Also, this puts about half of the payroll on Pap 13, Braun 20, Gomez 10, Garza 13 for next year. Plus Segura and Peralta arb eligible year after and Lucroy year after that.

This seems like their last shot to make a run for the foreseeable future.

no salary cap in baseball so if the rich owner wants to spend the money i say go for it!

if u are rich enough to own a baseball team then its not like u need or care about money.

but it is a risky proposition to say the least. i think Papelbon is capable and has the right mindset to be a successful closer.
