The Chicago Cubs a World Series Contender in 2015?????

Just signed Jon Lester and Miguel Monterro!!!!

    more moves to come???

    1.Lester
    2. Arrieta
    3.Wada
    4. Hendricks

thats a pretty nasty top 4
they need a quality #5 starter IMO

Doubront and Wood are not good enough anymore.

will Kris Bryant be the starting 3rd basemen this year????

he is the next Troy Tulowitski

You missed Jason Hammel. They just signed him back a couple days ago. He was their best pitcher before they traded him last season. So it's:

    1. Lester
    2. Arietta
    3. Hammel
    4. Hendricks
    5. Wada or Wood

Cubs don't need another starter. They also have Jacob Turner as a depth option.

They will probably tick down the days on Bryant for the arb eligible clock. I heard it was around 20 days. So more likely late April/early, but that will be controversial. Either way, he will be up for most of the season. And he is going to be a big time bat. They might move him to LF though, still up in the air.

Cubs probably still looking for another outfielder -- they are looking LH, on-base, contact, maybe some speed, versatile. And maybe another LH bullpen arm. But that's about it. I think they may also still sign David Ross and trade Wellington Castillo.

To hell with anyone getting my hopes up. Hurts just reading a thread like this and watching ESPN slob their nuts this year. We all know how this story plays out.

Does it matter if they get Scherzer. They will just lose one to Tommy John in August and miss the playoffs. I'm just saying, I'll believe it when I see it. Maddon was amazing news! Keep hearing its one of the best, if not the best farm system. Ok then, lets see it.

Future looks bright for the Cubbies. For the first time in my lifetime they have a very solid front office. Interesting to see if they can mesh it together on the field. As a sox fan, I always like to see the cubs do well. It motivates the sox to spend money and get good. Last time it netted them a world series

Rizzo can't do all the HR's. They need to trade for Andre Ethier since he wants to be an everyday player

Jorge Soler, Kris Bryant. If you don't know them yet, you soon will. And before long, Addison Russell.

And Rizzo is one of the best hitters in the game. Cubs probably have another bat or two to add. They will likely lead the NL in HR.

Rizzo missed time last year with injury and the Cubs were still 2nd in the NL in HR's last year

they surely aren't lacking in power

And while Baez and Alcantara both had some rookie struggles, they also flashed power and they were only up for a couple months. Soler too. If those guys get full seasons (and Kris Bryant probably held back a month for $$ concern) -- power out the wazoo. Something like:

    1. Alcantara CF (20-205)
    2. Coghlan LF (10-15)
    3. Bryant 3B (35-40)
    4. Rizzo 1B (30-35)
    5. Castro SS (15-20)
    6. Soler RF (25-30)
    7. Baez 2B (30-35)
    8. Montero C (10-15)

HR guesses (assuming full seasons in paren). HR's go down if Cubs go with LaStella at 2B.

any team who is forecasted to make a run at the World Series never makes it

weren't the Tigers/As/Dodgers/Angels all the heavy favorites last year??? did any of them make it out of the first round of the playoffs?

The Cubs having 1 ace and 3 very solid pitchers is not enough to carry this terrible organization to a World Series, and all the teams mentioned above have/had more dangerous pitching/hitting rosters

They still need to carve out an identity and get some new, but proven bats. They also need to completely revamp that HORRID bullpen

You are clueless. Rondon, Strop, Ramirez, Grimm. I'm a little concerned on the LH side, but they have some options.

Montero is terrible and the Scrubbies have an awful bullpen.

Montero cannot call games anymore and he's lost the zip on his arm. He swings for the fences and struggles to hit contact.

Max Sherezer and Jon Lester are about as durable as it gets. Its no coincidence you see the same guys on the shelf year after year....

Josh Johnson and Brandon Morrow are a lock to spend atleast a month on the DL every season. Lester and Sherezer have sound easily repeatable mechanics and have very strong back and core muscles that help keep them injury free.

You are really going to be in for a nice surprise with kris bryant.

he is a legit superstar. I am talking on the level with Tulowitski , Holiday and Braun.

This dude has all 5 tools and he has the frame and mechanics that will easily translate to the big league level.

Kid is going to hit .300 and knock in 35-40 dingers every year at Wrigley.

First they need to have a winning record.
    Second make the playoffs.
Third win a game in the playoffs.
    Fourth win a playoff series.
    Fifth beat the Giants.

Bryant/Rizzo/Soler will be the best 3/4/5 in baseball, maybe as soon as late next season.

They certainly wouldn't be the first team to go from several seasons of a losing record to the World Series in one season. Ask Joe Maddon.
