SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds drilled his 738th career home run Wednesday night, depositing a 2-2 pitch from St. Louis Cardinals reliever Ryan Franklin over the right-field barrier with one out in the eighth inning.
Bonds now trails all-time home run leader Hank Aaron by 17.
Bonds' fourth home run of the season tied the score, 5-5. Franklin became the 437th pitcher to allow a home run to Bonds, extending the left fielder's Major League record. It also was the 42nd Giants "splash hit" into McCovey Cove in AT&T Park history, including 33 by Bonds.
