Well he's 2-2 so far tonight, I guess that's not good enough for you. Either that or you've seen his AB's in the future.

Baez was/is universally a top 10 MLB prospect, but we know you're smarter than all the rest.

    just wait

the league will have no trouble pitching to his aggression

    Here's a clue......

He has NO interest in advancing ANY runner, let alone a runner on second with no outs. If this was the proper way TO PLAY, don't you think EVERY team would be letting all their hitters swing away?

The rest of their schedule is mostly upper class teams. We'll see what shakes.

You pretty much described every hitter in baseball these days -- especially the "sluggers."

No one does the little things to help teams win ballgames anymore.

In the world according to I/O, Javier Baez would be bunting in the 1st inning with a runner on 2nd and no out.

The first time he showed no interest in advancing the runner it cost them the game. This time I think he was down 1-2 and hit the single.

    It'll catch up to him.

I'm in total agreement with you -- the disrespect for things that help win games that has been proven to work for over 100 years in this game is a total embarrassment. But Baez is just one in a land of a million now. The "right way" to play the game is long gone.

The hacks have always existed in baseball, but since Moneyball became mainstream, teams think they can flush bunting and everything else Billy Beane swears off. Problem is, you can't just blindly do what the A's do without copying their personnel blueprint also. Now you've got an entire league full of horrific hitters like Nate Schierholtz hacking away instead of squaring up or moving a guy over. It's a joke and a blatant disrespect of the game.

I overbid a bit for him in fantasy, but good dividends since I earn extra for HRs & I needed a utility spot producer. Seems typical of young talent in MLB. Too many Ks, but great pop when making contact.

Jorge Soler makes his debut for Cubs tonight.

Think Yasiel Puig. Big, strong, athletic RF with a more advanced approach at the plate than Baez. Only 22 but has been delayed over the last couple years by injuries. Signed a 9 year $30 mil deal a few years ago with the Cubs. 1.132 OPS this season in 62 games at AA/AAA.

No doubt like Puig. Stupid. Lazy. Cocky.

Hopefully this island hopper will grow out of it. But then again he's going to the Cubs.

    fwiw

Baez has something to shoot for next year. There's no way he gets there right?

I could be wrong about any of this......MLB record for strike outs in a season...Mark Reynolds.....2009.......223 times.

Through 20 games, Yunior has 36. Thats Over 291 for 162 games.

Say he takes 30 games off next year. At current rate he would still strike out 237 times.

    (Mark Reynolds...not in HOF)

He may have some of that. But I think if he produces like Puig, the Cubs will be happy enough.

I'd say a better way to do it would be K% as it pertains to plate appearances

    Reynolds 223/659= 33.8% K ratio

    Baez 36/86= 41.8%

extrapolated out to Baez having 659 PA's he'd strike out 275 times

And of course you can't (or shouldn't) extrapolate the first 20 games. Baez won't be the first rookie to strike out a lot in his first month. We'll see. I do think he could K 200 times. He could also hit 40+ HR's. Strikeouts are overrated. I'd rather have a K and a HR than two harmless groundouts.

A K with runners on and a possible multi-run inning, and a home run. Two ground outs with runners in scoring position and a home run.

A home run when you have already cost your team multiple runs in the same game in earlier at bats when things were on the line on a team that can't score.

Not too mention the opponent won't exactly go after prior hitters when they have Mr K on deck. That's 2 times a game Mr K.

Not like he can start juicing after his first seasons go by and improve for the rest of his career. (Like somebody else.)
