Tigers @ Yankees
Recommendation: Tigers -125
The Tigers head to the Bronx tonight behind Reigning CYYoung award winner Max Scherzer. Scherzer is pitching dominantly, going 5-0with a 2.08 ERA in his last 7 starts. He’s tied for the league lead in wins andis striking out batters at an alarming rate. He receives a lot of run supportat an average of around 6 rpg in his favor. He has also been dominant lifetime againstthe Yankees.
Brandon McCarthy has pitched fairly well since being acquiredby the Yanks. That’s no surprise as nearly every advanced metrics stat indicatedthat he was poised for a turnaround. He has been very unlucky and things havebegun to turn in his favor. Although he received the victory in his lastouting, it was far from quality, as he allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. Keep inmind that the middle infield for New York is currently one of the worst inbaseball, so McCarthy won’t have the luxury of being backed by a great defense.
No surprise that Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez arerunning hot. The acquisition of David Price should also give this squad amotivational boost, as they certainly feel like they can win it all thisseason. Big offensive advantage to the Tigers in this one and I’ll give asignificant advantage to Scherzer in the pitching department as well. Take theTigers.
