    RIP "Mr. Padre"

Three things were guaranteed in the 1980's

    1) The sun rising in the east
    2) Wade Boggs in contention for the AL batting crown
    3) Tony Gwynn in contention for the NL batting crown

Dude was an all time great hitting machine.

I still check the MLB leaders daily, see a guy batting .302 in the Top-10 of both leagues, and wonder, "where have you gone, Tony Gwynn and Wade Boggs?"

    Fukk you cancer

One of my favorite players growing up

First Braves game I went to, I was sitting in Fulton County by the outfield field and Gwynn reached into the stands and took a foul ball from me. Sad day for baseball.

Some interesting stats on the greatness that was Tony Gwynn...

•Tony Gwynn faced Greg Maddux 107 times in his career, more than any other pitcher; Gwynn batted .415, Maddux never struck him out.

•Tony Gwynn struck out 434 times in his career; Mark Reynolds struck out a combined 434 times just in 2009 & 2010.

•Tony Gwynn had 287 career plate appearances against Braves trio of Maddux, Glavine, & Smoltz, he hit .381 with just 3 strikeouts.

Outside of his rookie season, he never struck out more than he walked. Pretty impressive...guys like Adam Dunn and Dan Uggla strike out more in 1 year and a half than he did in 20

In Tony Gwynn's career, he had 1 3-strikeout game. There were 11 yesterday in the majors. 1 of those was a 4 K game, which Gwynn never did.

    Wow only 54.

    R.I.P. Tony

    We will miss you.

He and Cal were my faves.

Really a treat to see them honored at the '01 all-star game and then enter the hall together.
