Orioles Purchase Contract of Johan Santana

He is still on the Disabled List and will need a rehab stint in the minors, but with normal progression could be in the Orioles' rotation by early July.

The real wreck was him throwing god knows how many pitches in the no-hitter for the Mets (150ish?), that one start could have ruined his career, he was progressing nicely until then.

    So much for that!

Santana tears his Achilles during extended spring training appearance and will not pitch this year. He career may now be done too.

LT you're older guy you watched vida blue and bob Gibson and the old timers you really believe in high pitch count running guys careers.

NOW yes because pitchers are trained to top out at 120ish. Back then guys threw more all the time so their arms got used to it.

So tough for pitchers to come back from shoulder injuries.

Brandon Webb is another one whose promising career had an early end

But it was the Achilles that could end it all for Johan. He was actually on target to join Orioles in a couple of weeks.

The shoulder did him in long ago. Even if he joined the Orioles, he was a shell of his former self.

So so close for Johan. I'm thinking this is going to be end of the line here. Just a terrible injury when he was scheduled to pitch soon.
