Much like the Astros themselves, my picks in these games so far .. BLOW! STL won their first game of the season with a 4-2 win last night. HOU is now 0-4. I missed my pick on the OVER for last night.
SAT, APRIL 7th (7:05ET) Anthony Reyes vs. Roy Oswalt
Reyes is 0-0 with a 5.56 ERA in 2 career starts vs. HOU. His lone start at Minute Maid yielding a 7-6 Cards win although Reyes only went 5 innings, giving up 4 runs. Roy O. meanwhile is 7-5 with a 3.33 ERA in 18 career starts vs. STL and was on the hill with the Astros winning 3 of his 4 starts vs. STL in 2006. I don't trust playing a total at all right now even with both teams looking like solid under plays due to their pathetic offenses. However as I explained yesterday, the Astros have left a ton of runners on base and sooner or later those flood gates will open with RISP. So we go with a side and try to get out of a hole or further sink ourselves in.
It's probably a safer pick, but I really feel like runs are going to flow at some point. If the total was 8.5 or 9, I would feel really good about the UNDER.
The only thing I actually fear about those being scored is the pens of both teams. I'm thinking that both these pitchers will go 7 to 8 strong innings though.
