As Jim Croce once sang, "You don't tug on Superman's cape." And you don't bet against Minnesota's #1 arm Johan Santana, especially at home.
Erik Bedard had some good stretches last year for the Orioles, but overall was a much better pitcher at home (3.03 ERA) than on the road (4.69). The Orioles were a poor road team in 2006 (30-51) and also went just 5-21 away from home versus lefties. So, facing Minnesota's Johan Santana in the Metrodome in their season opener does not bode well.
Santana is MLB's best pitcher and the Twins were an amazing 17-0 at home in his regular season starts last year. Always tough to lay this kind of price but with Santana on the hill at home, how can one take the poor-traveling Orioles? Go with the Twins.
Play the Baltimore Orioles behind their ace Eric Bedard when they meet the Minnesota Twins and their ace Johan Santana.
Minnesota is 2-5 the last three years as a home favorite of -200 to -225. The Twins are 1-4 in their last five games following an off day and 1-5 in their last six overall.
Baltimore starter Eric Bedard actually pitched well last year with a 15-11 record and a 3.76 ERA overall. Bedard has a 2.55 ERA overall vs Minnesota since 1997. What I'm expecting is a low-scoring game with Baltimore pulling off the upset win in a close one. We'll recommend a small play on Baltimore tonight!
