Texas Rangers Select RUSSELL WILSON in Minor League Draft

    Move over Bo and Deion?

MLB's Texas Rangers took Russell Wilson in the minor league phase of Thursday's Rule 5 draft.
Back in 2010, Wilson was drafted in the fourth round of the standard draft by the Rockies. He hit .229 with five homers and 19 steals while playing some Class A ball for Colorado between 2010 and 2011. The Rangers know Wilson isn't going to be a two-sport player, but it only cost them $12,000 to make him a part of their organization. "I think that's going to be a positive message for all of our players in our system, our coaches, everybody to have somebody like that around," Rangers assistant GM A.J. Preller said. I heard the LA Galaxy is going to draft him for the MLS and there is some rumors going around that the Vancouver Canucks are going to draft him for NHL. Guy is just too good!

Only because of the injury. Shame. He was probably the best two-sport player (i.e., could actually be an All-Star at both sports) in my lifetime.

Baseball teams throwing away draft picks (rule v or rule iv) is so commonplace that it isn't worth mentioning

Sanders never reached double-digits in home runs and he never topped 26 stolen bases, and he had a longer career than Bo did. Bo did both routinely in the three or four years he played over 100 games. Sure Bo was overrated as a baseball player, probably BECAUSE he was so well known for football, but that's besides the point really. The point is he was GOOD at both at the same time. I cant think of anyone else that was at least as good as he was in two sports simultaneously. The shame is that it lasted three or four years.

And how was Zezel at Soccer? That is my point. Jackson was actually good at two sports. Sanders was a Hall of Famer in football, but barely mediocre in baseball.

And that seems harsh considering the only thing Bo didn't do was hit for average. He had the four other tools.

If there was MLS back then he could have made any current team.

MLS doesn't count, you can make the MLS All-Star team. It equates to saying Zezel was a good minor league soccer player.

The strikeouts were the reason for the low batting average, but that is also the give-and-take for hitting 25 homers in a 100-game "season". And like I said, he had the other four baseball tools down.

It will be impossible for a soccer player of world class caliber to be playing two sports, not because of lack of talent, but because of logistics. Soccer season is between August and end of May and every two years there is either a World Cup or A Euro in the summer.

What I'm saying is if lets say soccer is banned for 1 year throughout the world some soccer players who are great athletes can get football jobs as wide receivers, corner backs etc if there was ever a need from an NFL team.

Same thing with Lebron James or Kobe Bryant. If they quit the NBA they can get jobs in the NFL.

So the only time you can have a two sport athlete is with Baseball/Football and is not because of talent but because it works out with the season schedules of each sport.

Yes I agree totally, so we never really got a chance to see what Zezel COULD do. One could say the same thing of "what could have been" had Bo's career (careers) not been cut short, but I am only talking about the brief four years or so where he did do both. If you did not know who Jackson was and only looked at his baseball stats, the consensus would probably be that his high strikeout rate being offset by a lot of home runs is not unlike a lot of other well respected power hitters, but the difference is that Bo added blazing speed, good defense and a strong throwing arm to the equation.

Bo never really had an All Star worthy OPS. He was just a fan fave and mythologized due to his amazing raw talents .

    And an ops under 800

That's not very good for any outfielder let alone a guey with power

He had tools...great. So did a guy like lastings milledge. That didn't make him a good player.

I also haven't gotten into the fact that there are literally hundreds of running backs who had better careers than bo. We aren't talking about what might have been here.

Bo was a slightly better baseball player than Deion. Bo was great when he ran the ball, but his FB career was so short it almost doesn't count. I mean, his career rushing attempts were pretty much equivalent to a single season running back. Bo had the potential to be the best combined, but Deion actually accomplished something in both sports. Bo knew football, he just didn't do it much in the NFL.
