TABLE TALK
The Tigers and the Red Sox meet in Boston for game 1 of the ALCS. Detroit returns for the third time in a row, hoping to make it back to the World Series for redemption from last year's sweep by the Giants. Boston returns for the first time since 2008, when they lost in a seven game series to the Rays. Anibal Sanchez takes the mound for Detroit. In his last outing during the divisional series with Oakland, he only managed 4.1 innings of work after 6 runs and 8 hits. While Sanchez is typically an imposing threat, he hasn't lasted more than 5 innings in his last three outings. John Lester meanwhile, who will start for Boston, went 7.2 strong innings against the Rays. Lester will be working off of 8 days rest, so he should be fresh and ready to go. Although he gave up 8 hits in his last match up against the Tigers, Lester managed 9 strikeouts and only 1 run allowed. My pick is Lester and Detroit.
