If you're the A's, do you start Colon or Gray in Game 5?

Wily juiced up veteran or one of the best young pitchers in the game?

it should be gray because colon's back is probably gonna give out like it did in 2005.

Colon without a doubt, wouldn't trust a rookie in elimination game.

I'd go with gray. He's on normal days rest. Colon is a contact pitcher and the tigers bats have obviously come to life.

Sonny Gray isn't just any rookie, have you even been watching the A's this season? Game 2 was essentially an elimination game and he outdueled verlander.

    Melvin is going with Colon.

On the bright side for the A's Bartolo Colon
cant pitch any worse than he did last time
and Verlander cant possibly any better
    than he did last time.

Hopefully Scherzer will not be available out of the pen

I'd start Gray. And I wouldn't even consider a wager on the As with Colon on the mound. With Gray I'd give it some thought.

Unfavorable peripherals... same as all year and yeah he shows up with the mojo and baffles everyone but I just don't see the portly veteran coming out of this one on top.

Gray could bail him out from the bullpen but if A's are already down 3-0 and Verlander repeats his last stellar outing that's a big deficit.

    a HR and double??

not only does he blow the lead, he lets Tigers take the lead.

If i say see Doolittle pitch again i'm going to break my tv
    he is a fukkin scrub.

and Soggard???? how the hell is this guy in the major leagues???

hes automatic out, ive seen pitchers in the NL who swing the bat better

after giving it some thought , I agree
he gives the A's the best chance to win.

Any word on if this may happen or not?

    Rotoworld:

Justin Verlander will start ALDS Game 5 against the Athletics on Thursday.

The Tigers used Max Scherzer for two innings in relief in Game 4, so Verlander will now get the ball in Oakland. He held the A's scoreless while striking out 11 over seven innings in Game 2 last weekend. The A's have yet to announce their starter, but it will be either Bartolo Colon or Sonny Gray. Scherzer should be ready to go for Game 1 of the ALCS should the Tigers advance.

What makes everyone so confident in zoolander? He's been shaky, we all know this. Not saying he wont come through when it matters, more just playing devils advocate really, just seems everyone's already counted the As out. If zoolander shits the bed, who's behind him??

Because the A's had so many chances to win yesterday and they choked. Now the Tigers
    have momentum.

Reddick, and Moss have been striking out way too much. Soggard couldnt hit water
if he fell out a boat. (hopefully Collaspo starts Thursday)

Verlander has been brilliant in his last 3 starts and looked like
Cy Young Verlander in his last start this past Saturday.

That and Verlander dominated the A's last year in game 5 too.

And the Tigers bats have woken up. V-Mart and Peralta are on fire!

Only hope for the A's is that Verlander throws 120 pitches thru 6 innings and the Tigers bring in
    Coke or Benoit

Colon wasn't that bad the first time out. "Couldn't be any worse"? Other than the first inning, he was fine.

And to think Scherzer would be available out of the bullpen again? LOL.

Colon did not have good stuff in his last start. His velocity was down. He lacked movement too.

i dont know if Scherzer will be available or not.

Are you saying he's confirmed not available in the bullpen Thursday?

It almost doesn't matter much, either will be on a very tight leash. I would start Colon as emotions will be very high to start and I'd rather have a dumb, fat, regressing experienced juice head than a rookie in the first few innings.

Hasta be Colon......outside of a few pitches in the 1st inning in Game 1, guy was shutdown.
He's earned the right to start this game. I'm sure the leash will be a little tighter, and Gray will be available out of the bully.
