not sure how you can feel confident in betting the Tigers OR A's tonight.

this is the definition of a coin flip game. complete toss up no edge IMO.

both teams looked awful at the plate last night, between Oakland striking out in DD and looking lost and completely uncomfortably every AB.

The Tigers got shut down by As dominate pitching, slow speed on base paths hamper them bad. A's pitching is so good, Tigers are built on stringing together base hits and against Oakland pitching you just can't do that.

tough to rely on 2-3 HR on in the Colissuem, maybe UNDER again.

Gray is another guy that gonna go on DL with elbow issues. frame is way to small for as hard as he throws and the torque he has for that curveball

Painful to watch inept hitters getting paid 30 million a year.

One thing you have to realize is Oakland is streaky when they are cold at the plate it's bad but when hot almost impossible to beat. Ugly win far as offense goes but it could be the momentum swing we need. Don't sleep on this team they waxed Detroit several weeks ago in Detroit.

athletics and tigers were actually above average offensive teams this year

you guys just gotta give credit to verlander and sonny gray

    they were phenomenal today

both guys have nasty stuff and throw 95+ mph with great control

Zeta gets it! Like I said though A's offense can struggle at times and be streaky but firing right really tough to beat with that pitching backing them.

guys I understand good pitching when to tip your hat.

these teams are lost at the plate. 29 Ks and 18 innings a play off game and not even a put out to the first basemen has never been done in history before.

What's your reasoning behind it besides that? Tigers are a solid offensive team. A's offense has been a powerhouse scoring double digits often in Aug/Sep. A's have hit more HR than any other team since ASB, I believe.

Sure there were a mix of terrible AB's (Reddick's bunt in the air) but a lot of great AB's too (Crisp's AB, Vogt's 7th inning AB). Bad umpiring too. But not giving credit to the pitchers in this game seems silly. Or do you think a week layoff made these guys forget how to hit a ball?

dude have you watched the series?

there have been plenty of chances for both teams. Tigers should be up 2-0 (no i had money on that game) in the 5th or 6th can't remember...they had 1st and 3rd no out...strike em out throw em out....then the last three innings before the 9th the As had the lead off hitter on every single inning including a lead off double and did not convert.

its a combination of a bunch of things, bone head managing. 0-0, lead of man on every inning, bunt him the hell over. Scherzer and Gray were absolutely dominate BUT in the same sense there were opportunities. both teams are swinging and missing at pitches by like a foot. completely lost.

yeah, I suppose you can blame it on the lay off. It's not like they haven't faced dominate pitching all year or this is the first time they have seen a great pitcher. just plain out choking.

the worst is Leyland putting in Porcello. his words were "we wanted a ground ball double play, home to first"

do you know how hard that is with the infield so far in? they ball can find so many holes, especially if its hit sharply, just like it was.

first of all, the A's have struck out 29 times in the last 18 innings like I said, bring in a strike out pitcher, Vogt is not some big contact hitter (even though he came through in that spot) stick to the trend that the A's are gonna K. bring in a strike out pitcher first, and if you get it, then play the infield back at double play depth after that.

that was a disaster of a piece of managing.

I am not disagreeing and saying they weren't but its also a combination of the the hitter being lost at the plate too.

thats what ace pitchers do, they shut down teams with runners in scoring position

they also get strikeouts and popups with runners on 3rd base and 1 out or less

you could have put any teams lineup vs sonny gray in that pitchers park and the result would have been similar
