Hunter Pence 5 years, 90 million...Am I the only one cracking up at this contract?

Guy has cracked 100 RBI ONCE.
    Career 285 hitter.
    I'm not saying he's a bad player.
He has a good arm in RF and some decent power, but 18 mill a year? Really?

    WTF???

    Disaster written all over it.

    Extremely overpaid.

30 years old and a mediocre player. If you compare his hitting and defense to the average corner outfielder...

Seems about right.. he's a consistent 25 hrs 85+ RBI guy who rarely misses a game and hasn't had any major injuries.

    I think hes worth it

he had a good year this year

The right fielder leads the NL with 369 putouts. He has an 88 percent success rate in stolen bases and is third with 298 total bases. Pence ranks sixth in hits and fourth in doubles.

    hes an all around player

Dude rides a scooter to the stadium with his old lady, plus his warm up routine in the on deck circle is awkward as hell. No way I would pay that guy 18 a year.

He's subpar defensively and has a career OBP of .339

Right now he's not a top 20 OF, let alone when he's 33 or 34.

compared to the average corner OF Pence is actually much better; In the NL LF/RFs collectively hit 265/332/431 1 1HR every 34 PA and 1SB every 52 PA; Pence was at 282/339/481 HR every 26PA and SB every 31 PA. Defensively he is also above average total zone ranks him 11th among RFs and Ultimate Zone has him 7th among RF and 24 over all OF.

They are paying him mostly for pregame playoff pep talks. Tony Robbins take a back seat.

That's hardly "much better". He's above average hitting wise compared to other corner OFs.

He's clearly subpar defensively. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx...52&position=OF -19.3 for his career according to fangraphs.

And his OBP is pretty bad for someone getting paid like a star.

Highest paid players should be pitchers

They are only ones that have major impact on a team not hitters

Nobody in mlb deserves over 10 mill a year

No one considers Hunter Pence a good defensive OF. You'd have to seriously cherry pick numbers to come up with such an assessment.

    http://www.baysportsnet.com/how-the-...lp-the-giants/

The only blemish on Pence’s scouting report, is his subpar defense, which comes as a surprise to most because he possesses above average speed, but his -7.2 UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating) is far below the league average. Not to mention that his arm can be a liability as well, which isn’t something you typically worry about with right fielders.
He's always been a subpar defensive player.

So if they don't sign Pence who are the Giants gonna have in RF? They need him desperately, their outfield is a mess.
